Need math help now

Thanks for your help earlier today. Now, I need math help. I've made this from the photo, with no pattern. I'm tired of trial and error in getting things to fit. I have the center section done, and now I need to figure out how to do the two rows with the 5 little photo squares in them. The question is how wide should the the filler space be between the sashed photos? I've taken this apart and put it together more than once, so would like it to fit the first time.

The width it needs to be is 47 3/4" wide, finished. Each photo square in 5 7/8, unfinished.

I changed the 5 7/8 to a decimal (so I can use a calculator), which is 5.875. 5.875 x 5 gives us 29.375, unfinished width on the photo squares. If I deduct 2.5 inches in 10 - 1/4 inch seams, that leaves me 26.875" (26 7/8") of photo squares. If I need 47.75"of fabric to fill the space, that leaves me 20.875 (20 7/8") of filler fabric. I'll need to add 2 inches for 8 - 1/4" seams. So, I'll divide 22.875 by 4, which is the number of filler blocks I'll need. That leaves each to be 5.71875, which is a hair less than 5 3/4" per filler square.

Did I do that correctly? I really don't want to make this as many times as I've made the previous parts.

Thanks,

bkay

Ii think your calculations are correct.

I would cut those filler squares at 5.75 and ease in that extra 1/8 inch over that 47.75 inch span.

My drawing is out of scale - the pictures should be smaller and the filler squares smaller.

Thanks Bearisgray. As usual, this has been a learning experience.
