Need name for this quilt block
1 Attachment(s)
Unfortunately, the maker passed suddenly, and her daughter asked me to quilt this top for her little girl. I am ready to put a label on, and would like to name this pattern along with other info. I know it is a scrappy, and to me it looks like a block in a block..but is there another name? TIA for any help--I appreciate it.

Looks like a variation of Square in a Square done in 1930 reproduction fabrics.

That's really pretty. I don't know the name but the first thing that came to my mind was Square in a Square, in a Square. That's just my name for it & I'm sure that's not the real name. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png

It reminds me a bit of a "Hip to Be Square" as seen at https://www.quiltingdaily.com/quilt/...quilt-pattern/ I like that if it starts out with a white square, it ends with a print and visa versa. Also that all the white stripes are the same width and the prints are the same width.

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png You are kind to finish the quilt for the little girl. What about a fun name on the quilt....Somewhere over the Rainbow came to my mind when seeing the lovely colors.

I think Rff1010 nailed it! Nice of you to finish it for her granddaughter.❤️

Agreed! Rff1010 named it, and I will give some thot to "over the rainbow". The soft pastels are perfect for a little girl! However, she will prob put it in her hope chest...it is king size . I just finished hand sewing the binding, and now off to make the label. Thank you-everyone- for them great help!

That is a real pretty quilt and it is so nice of you to quilt it for the little girl. I kinda remember seeing this quilt pattern in a magazine but can't remember which magazine. I will go looking for the magazine and see if I can find the name. Not sure I still have the magazine as I have been going thru my magazines and destashing

I just went and looked at the Jordan Fabric picture and your quilt is very similar.

There are actually 2 quilts for the 2 granddaughters. I have only finished the one. The other top is scrappy also..the blocks are strips sewed to a stable fabric, cut from corner twice, mixed and sewn back into a block. I looked in the scrap quilts book and saw they had named it "rainbow strip quilt". Perfect! Copycat suggested over the rainbow for the above quilt...so I will use to label the 2nd quilt. How could I not do these quilts...the daughters of the deceased were very generous to allow me first buy of the estates' sewing supplies. Just because one of the husbands works for my son many yr's.
thank you all for your input. |
