Does it matter what the soleplate is made of? I'm thinking of going to Walmart and look around. Not looking to spend too much but do want to get a good one. I know most of the time you get what you pay for, so any input appreciated!
Thanks! |
I ordered my cordless Panasonic online, previously owned a cordless Oreck (from ebay). Love them both.

I recently bought a Shark electroinic iron and it is great. I heard some bad things about this brand but I have had no problems. You just have to be sure and unplug it when finished with it.

Mine is a $14 Walmart Proctor Silex. It has a teflon plate, NO auto shut off, a swivel cord and I love it!!! It gets plenty hot, and the sole plate looks as new as when I first got it early last fall. Occasionally I iron on a damp paper towel if I get a little fusible on it, or after pressing my freshly starched fabric. The steam isn't like the newer more expensive models, but it works just fine when I need a little blast. :D:D:D

Mine is a cheapie DD picked up at Walmart and it works great. It stays hot and has a retractable cord. Perfect. She never uses it but I do.

I've been through a few in the last 5 years or so. My favorite so far is the Shark Electronic iron. I got it at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $30. I won't spend more than that on one.

I have two, a Rowenta for home and sewing use. Then I bought a cheapie at WalMart that I use for starching/fusing with a teflon plate.

I also need a new one as mine has a small nick in it that snags the material. Can't find the nick to sand it out with a dremel. It is practically new and wasn't cheap.
Are the cheap ones at Walmart lightweight. I hate a heavy iron which mine is, as it tires me out if I am doing a lot of ironing. |
I need a SECOND iron - tired of having to run upstairs when I need it downstairs and the other way around.
I'd like to get one for under $20 and have it be a "Name Brand" - like Proctor Silex - thanks for mentioning it. I've seen one for $10 at Walgreens - but I'm sure it won't last. |
