I ventured through the cutting for this quilt:
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/12/...tars.html#more

But now that I'm setting it up I don't like it. It's too busy, even if I saturate the star portion with solids. The shape is all wrong (unappealing to my eye).

I have 4.5" triangle-blocks, 4.5" blocks, 5" blocks, and 1.5" strips

I have lots of leftover from some of the fabrics. 8 light, 8 dark.
The colors are burg/blue/tan- Independence day themed.

Any thoughts for a new pattern for my cuts? Or should I just tuck them away to see if another pattern calls me later?

Thanks, I'm a new quilter and it just never occurred to me that this could happen. :-)

maybe make the stars with two fabrics and stick with the background of the stars being white neutrals (maybe two or three different tone-on tone whites) and keep the scrappy borders and sashings-should tone it down alot-I don't like their version much either-I like your choice of fabrics, but the stars get lost with all those prints. I know some will love it that way.

I don't like theirs either, but I do like their pattern. Scrappy quilts are cute, but this is too busy. A neutral background will showcase your pretty prints. If you have quite a bit of fabric, you could sew two or three stars together and make a table runner for the Fourth of July.

Yes, the stars do get lost in that pattern. These two suggestions look good. That might make it less busy.

I agree with Jill if you try using the lighter colors for the background, either the stars or the beige fabric. I like scrap quilts too but there is too much going on. The stars are the 'star of the show' and would be prettier if they stood out more.

Thanks guys... let me try that.
I have quite a bit of the small blue star fabric.

I like this one much better:

I think I can convert it without a lot of loss. I'll try your suggestions first.
