In need of office gift ideas for men

I'm looking for project ideas if anyone can help. I have 8-9 people that work in the man's office that we have to give something to.. Well, last year I made mug rugs and that went over great. I'm just not sure what to make this year. If 3 of them weren't men (1 of them single) then it would be easier, since women like all sorts of household items. I told the man last year that unlike the previous boss, I wanted to do everything I could to be sure that whatever we gave them was useful to the recipient instead of just their spouse.

It doesn't have to be Christmas themed. The mug rugs I made last year were mostly beach themed. I could make the ladies something girly and the men something else, and I've considered a travel cord keeper pouch with a monogram and/or something techie on it & a grill towel that hooks on your grill & has a cookout themed item embroidered on it. Of all the scouring online the last few weeks, nothing else seems interesting so far.

So, if anyone has any ideas, I'm open to any suggestions!

How about those new microwaves squares? My friend made me one and you put it under the bowl when microwaving a bowl of soup or chili. Then when you get the bowl out of the microwave, you don't burn you fingers. Guys do microwave their meals too !!

How about long oven mitts, for grilling?

QuiltnNan 11-02-2013 06:06 AM

how about fabric boxes... they can put their keys or change in them... or as a candy dish

Men like baked goods!

I think you started off with some really good ideas.

Another idea might be suitcase kit bags to hold their toiletries, razor etc.

You could personalize them ... choose fabrics that represent each person's interests (eg. fish for the fisherman, breed of dog, baseball fabric for the ball lover, etc.)

That way you could do the same for men and women ... just change the fabric selection to something appropriate for each. Definitely something that would be usable by everyone.

The suitcase kit bags made me think of luggage tags. I made them for all the family one year.

I really like this idea and it would be something useful at home as well as when you travel, thanks for the idea.

The structured baskets are really cute too there. Nice site.

One year, years ago a friend made everyone in the office slippers to wear at the office. Who ever would have thought that slippers AT THE OFFICE would have been a hit but they were. Everyone, especially the execs liked wearing them and it did look out of place with the three piece suits and sometimes people had to be reminded to shoe-up when clients were coming in. lol.

This is so cool! I would hide my chocolate in one of these; the family is always finding my stash!!!!

for men, candied nuts or homemade candy. men like snack food. you could put it in the fabric boxes.

I found a great site www.positivelysplendid.com for a handmade first aid roll up kit. You could use any fabric to customize it for a man or a woman. I'm making them for family members for Christmas and filling them with all the first aid items they might need.

My first thought was the little fabric boxes filled with candy, that would be appropriate for everyone and they could use them forever. I also like the idea of luggage tags, that would be non-gender specific.

This is great! My dtr and her best friend have booked a cruise in Feb. Guess what they'll be getting for Christmas?!

Ellageo 11-04-2013 04:44 AM

A coffee mug organizer!! Of course using fabrics to personalize!!
What better for an'office' than a coffee mug.....organizer!
I think if you search this site, you'll find a free pattern,

There is a free pattern somewhere for CD holders that fit over the sun visor in your car. Those were a big hit with my family for Christmas. I believe they hold 10 CDs.

I like the idea about the cord keepers. Everyone has a cell phone and you have to take those darn cords with you.

Mug Rug for coffee cup,

My husband loved the shoe bags I made for him one year out of nice flannel. Course they're only good if they travel.

Thanks for sharing - those are really cool

I am all about the cord keepers. I got one in a kit from a retreat and can't wait to make them for myself!

IBQUILTIN 11-04-2013 03:12 PM

I sure like moonwork42029's idea. Gonna try some myself

Great ideas here - sorry that I do not have any to add - but just wanted you to know that I am also "Dusty's Momma" - my Dusty is 28 yrs old and a female!

Monroe 11-04-2013 06:23 PM

Find a suitable mug, make a mugrug to match, and add goodies- cookies, muffins, favorite coffee pods. Hopefully no one would dare use someone else's mug, and not likely to be left in the office sink- a bonus!

DustysMomma 11-05-2013 05:27 AM

I want to thank everyone for the ideas so far and ask you all to keep them coming! I've been away for a couple days, so I'm catching up here. I was able to read but not comment on my phone while I was gone.

I did mug rugs last year, so mugs and/or mug rugs probably aren't the best thing, even though a couple of the ladies evidently are still bragging about how much they use theirs. I really like the first aid kit idea. I wonder if I could combine the cord keeper and first aid kit. I looked at the coffee cup organizer, but then I have to go find 9 mugs as well. The fabric box is cute, but I fear that it would be emptied & tossed by the men & that's not the point. Shoe bags, well I need one of those myself, but you're right, it's only good if they travel. The hanger safe, I like, but I dread zippers, especially doing 18 of them, lol. If I could use velcro and it feel secure, that's an idea. I already thought of the ipad/laptop sleeve, but unless you know they all have one, and what size, then half of them will be given away. That's more of a 1 on 1 gift, and this is supposed to be more of a surprise. Office slippers....since this is for a university office, that probably isn't the best idea, but it might be a family gift idea!

NikkiLu, I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves that name! I knew when I was 12 that one day I would name my son Dusty, and he would be raised as an only child. Of course, there have been a few times I've wanted to waiver from the only child plan, but in the long run it was for the best. I think Dusty is a great name for boys and girls!!!
