I tried using a walking foot and doing SID today for the first time. It went better than I expected. Far from perfect, but for me, pretty good. I need more visibility seeing the seamline but don't know where to get an open toe walking foot for my Singer Curvy. I had no luck searching online. Any ideas? TIA

I have never seem one, but I have seen this one, which is not completely open, but may be open enough to view better.

DB said that he would remove part of the front of my foot for me, to improve the visibility
The same with the plastic FMQ foot I have too... I just have to catch up with him LOL

I know , why don't they ask quilters and sewers how to design these things  More open on all the feet

I agree... it really helps when you can see what you are trying to do LOL

Usually the designers do listen to what we need, but is a matter of contacting the right person. Not every letter or fax arrives to someone who will understand what are you talking about. I am still hoping for a regular sewing machine (not too high end) that beeps when the bobbin is almost empty.

someone suggested using a bobbin for the top thread as well as the bottom. This would give you a better idea when the thread is all used up.

Open toed walking foot is amazing. I think every quilter should own one!

Does your machine have an SID foot available? I have one that looks like a tiny plough. Instead of ploughing the field, it runs down the ditch.

I never heard that hint about using a bobbin for the upper thread. That is so clever! It would definitely help. I guess that the thread would still feed ok. If anyone has tried this, please let us know!

Never tried the bobbin thread trick.. should be interesting. I do have a SID foot and find it is a great tool! I wonder of the open toe walking foot.. I would like to see a picture of one??

everybody has those pretty signatures and i went there and tried to make me one but it made it in a format that i couldn't get to work, any ideas, does somebody wanna make me one and send it to me? guess i'm just too dumb to know how to do it right, lol.

Janome makes an open toe walking foot. it's a bit pricey but i think mine was money well spent.

janome feet will usually work well on other brands. oddly, other brands usually don't work well on Janome. go figure.

here's a site that carries open toe WF. i'm sure it isn't the only one.

I don't think it helps you at all but my Bernina walking foot came with two different feet for the walking foot. A regular one and an open one. So they do exist, at least for some brands. Hope you can find one for your machine!

Yesterday I ordered an open toe walking foot for my Brother. I really want it for my Singer. I am going to try it on the Singer. Who knows? It may work. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have regular walking feet for both machines, but am new to machine quilting and think having greater visibility will help. Fingers crossed.
