I like your paw print blocks/cats and your colors.
It's really cute, you're doing an awesome job. Keep up your great work. |
I think the cat paws would be OK in moderation, i.e. in a few spots along the border, and not all over it. You could then echo them with your quilting and put a few extra paw prints on with the quilting. In my opinion, it would be more subtle.

I thought I would make blocks of cat paw prints to run up both side borders. Anyway, I've made a practice block of 3 paw prints. I can't decide if I like it, although I don't know why. What do you think? Continue with it or try something else? I also thought maybe make the paw prints out of the same print fabrics that the cats are made out of? Would that be better? Or should I just File 13 the whole idea completely? Thanks-- Oops.... I just realized I should have posted this in Pictures. Sorry Patrice. Great fun design!! |
I would put a border before the paw prints. Then I would try the paws every other square as well as every square to see which works the best. Needless to say....I love cats.

And I'm going to space the paw prints out more. When I got up this morning and looked at it I thought they were too close together also. It will also cut way down on how many I need to make, thank goodness! |
I like the pawprints, but would suggest a narrow border and then the pawprints. one pawprint wide on a lighter background would be my suggestion.
|
I LOVE the concept of the paws!!! Were it me I would probably be tempted to use a lighter background for the paws and I would put a border or two between the main portion and the paw prints and the paw prints would be my final border. Keep at it!!! I'm never happy with mine until it's completed.

Have you tried paper piecing the paws?

What about a smaller paw and a single row ???

I've been searching online for a fabric full of cat paws (so I wouldn't need to piece any paw prints at all) but I didn't find any that I liked or that I thought she would like. And making it a single row didn't look right when I tried it. I wanted it to (however remotely) suggest that a cat had really walked on the borders. I guess maybe I'm going to have to try applique, which I don't do well and don't really like how it looks on quilts. But we'll see. I'll get this bugger done one way or the other. :) |
I think that will add a lot. Especially if there is a strip of lighter fabric between the quilt and paw border. JMO.

Purrfect! Don't change a thing.

I have a couple of suggestions. I haven't quilted very long but when I look at your picture, I was wondering if you put a lighter border between the cats and the paws? Also, have you considered putting a lighter background with the paws? Just a thought and looking forward to seeing a picture of what you decide to do.
|
I think it is adorable and look forward to seeing the finished project.
Cheers, K |

I think the paw prints add an additional level of creativity- I really like it!

Love the paws, love the quilt!

Love it!!

But that is not your question. I see way too much green in your paw border. Can you put a sub-border of an inch or so around the cats to stop them from intruding into the border? Then size the paw border down so that they are only two paws wide? I.E. like a two legged cat and not a three legged mongrel? I have a whole bunch of these kittys sewed up myself, and I didn't know how to finish them off. Looking at what you have created has inspired me to go back to the drawing board myself. :-) Had to copy this from Nadine: The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, looks at you from the mirror every morning.

I'm kind of considering now, after fussing with these paw prints for a few days, to just not make them. They're just taking too much time and I have to get it done. I'll keep trying diff. options today and tomorrow but then I have to move on! But I'm defiinitely going to put at least one narrow border on first. That has been a very good suggestion that several people have had. |
I agree with tonnielorree I see too much green as well, and a little stop border will frame it better. But your cats look great. Just adding my two bits since you asked.

Love the paws, what a great idea! Is it that you would have to make so many to go around the whole quilt? Maybe just a few blocks of paw prints around a couple of corners would work!
|
I think the paw prints are really cute and a great idea.
I think it would make a difference if you separated the paw blocks from the cats. I would add a border (maybe 2 or 3"), the paw blocks and then finish it off with another border. Separating it would also make the paws appear smaller. |
Unless you need the size, I'd do the cat Print and only use one per block.

You could google paw prints , print them out and have nice real looking paws (maybe)

This may be way out there, but what I see is a light border, white or beige, with permanent dye ink stamped paw prints meandering around the border.

I like the block just the way it is, but I would use patterned fabrics like you did for the cats. Please post when this is done.

But I don't do well with very small pieces so I finally drafted the pattern as small as I can handle. But I like the idea of making the bottom half of the print rounder. I may try that. Thanks. OR, HERE IS ANOTHER IDEA: make the border solid green and then have your longarm quilter quilt a border of cat paw prints around the quilt. |
WOW! I love the paw prints and the colors! I also think it needs a narrow border between the main quilt and the paw print border. It is going to be great!

I like your idea. But think the border should not be any wider than half the width of the cat block. The kitty paws are a very cute idea.
|
I think it will look better if you put in a 1 1/2 inch border to separate the quilt from the border. As it is there is nothing to indicate that the paws are the border. Once you put on the border the paw prints may not look so large. I really like the idea of the paws though. Please send pictures when you are done.

I love your quilt. Maybe a little sub-border between the kitties and the paw prints would look good but I love the paw prints just the way they are. Cute, cute, cute!!!!
