I like the black or red sashing too. This is going to be a really cute quilt. She is doing a wonderful job!

I vote for black sashing. I think it is just too "crazy" without it and black looks modern for a younger quilter.

I like it better without sashing, too.

1st choice: red sashing, 2nd choice: blue sashing.

I like the black sashing and the blue; how about black sashing with blue squares at the intersections? Very good looking quilt!

I already gave my opinion...BUT..in reading all the responses...the best advice is to let her make the decision...it will not be wrong....so much fun to see a young person quilting....my granddaughter and great grand...both have made quilts and they always knew exactly what they wanted....not always my choice...so I would say let her do it...fun....fun...fun...

I like the red, but that's just my opinion, I'm sure your DD will know what she wants when she sees it. Just have fun with it and you wont go wrong.
