Need opinions: Sylvia's Bridal quilt and pastels
 

Recently I have fell in love with the Puttin' on the Ritz line of fabric. These fabrics are basicly pink, light blue, light gray and cream. And when I say "fell in love", this fabric found it's way into my dreams, lol. I have been throwing around ideas for a quilt for myself but I keep coming up empty handed. Until I saw the Sylvia's Bridal sampler quilt. I love that quilt. So I thought if I love the fabric and the pattern, why not pair the two together? But I am afraid the details of the small blocks may be lost in the pastel color. If I do this much work on something, I really want it to show and I don't know if it will using the pastel colors.

What do you think?

The best way to find out and know for sure is to try a couple of blocks in your fabric and see if you are pleased.

Otherwise, you'll always be second guessing yourself and wondering how it would have looked?

Hmmm, I have that same fabric collection. I just looked up the Sylvia pattern to see what it looks like. I think if you pick just the right background fabric and are careful with your fabric placements it could be just gorgeous. I don't think the blocks will pop as much as they do in the pattern though. It'll be softer and more blended. But if you love the softness of the fabric collection to start with you'll love the softer more blended look of the Sylvia quilt made with that fabric line.

I think it would be lovely. And if you love both the pattern and the fabrics it will be a labor of love.

remember, contrast is all relative...even candy pink can be the 'dark' in a pastel quilt...you may need to add tiny accents of colors in jewel tones, i.e., sage, muted golds, mauve, blue-gray, that would be mediums in any other color group, will be your darks and everything will be lovely....

I agree the materials in the quilt on the book cover are muted already. I would use the cream as the background fabric and the rest of the line for the blocks. Pick 2 of you favorite blocks and make them up. If it isn't exactly what you want you have the front and back for a pillow. If it is you have 2 matching pillow fronts! Have fun it's going to be gorgeous!

This is so true. You can push a fabric to dark or to light just by what else you put with it. You can put a pastel color with cream or white and suddenly it's the "dark." Put that same pastel with a medium and now it's the light.

Thanks so much. I have decided to make a couple of blocks from the pinks and blues and also make the same blocks from darker fabrics just to get a contrast.
