Need Pattern for bag. Please help?
 

I need a bag pattern with lots of pockets both in and out. With double sholder straps. Mother of 5 (DGDIL is having another child and has asked me to make her one that she can carry everything in. I have looked everywhere I can think of. Free would be great but I am will to purchase. Please help

Have you tried eBay or Craftsy??? You can always add pockets to any interior of a pattern. I never have made any bags except for the type used to being grocery home. Good Luck !!

I have a tip for your DGDIL, which I got from my DD -- give every child who can walk their own backpack. Each child carries his own stuff, lessening the burden for mom. Those in diapers can carry a small packet of wipes and a couple diapers,, those who are older can carry toys, books, etc. Each child carries his/her own snacks/cup.

I have used this pattern three times for 'everything' bags. I make two changes to it however. First, I add an additional slip pocket on the inside back of the bag. Then I make a changing pad to match, and slip it in the back pocket. When they outgrow diapers, they can use the slip pocket for their laptop, tablet, etc. It has been a big hit for everyone that has received it. Second, I make the side 'bottle' pockets a little deep (I raise the height to the same level as the outside pocket). The first one I made (not for baby) my sister complained that sometimes the water bottle would slip out.

This is the bag I suggest too! I just got the pattern. It is somewhat complex but think I will tackle it. On an old post relating to this bag most of those who made it said it takes about 9-10 hours start to finish.

I've made the at least 4 of the Professional Totes and my 11 year old granddaughter made one (hers got a blue ribbon, best of class and best of show at the fair--it was her first bag. pictures are posted on this board)-- if you just follow each step the instructions in order you will do just fine. The instructions are lengthy but are very detailed. I leave out the center pocket to give myself more room inside. You will be proud of yourself when you are done.

I have used the messenger bag pattern for a diaper bag. There are several free online. I make it about 15" wide and 12" high. I make the outside side pockets a little wider than the side of the bag, then add elastic to the top. Good for carrying bottles. Put the large outside pocket on both the front and back. Same pockets on the inside as the outside. It was well used and I have had requests for more of the same. Google "School time messenger bag". I made it larger and made the strap adjustable.

I like this very much. Do you know whether there is a site where I can pay and download? I'm in Canada and actually live out in the middle of nowhere, about an hour from my nearest quilting store.
