When my mother was in nursing home, I had a sign on her wall locker that family did laundry, as they loose or ruin clothing with hot water and bleach.

The assisted living place where my grandmother is moving is quite nice. I used to temp there & know that the housekeeping staff was very good about keeping track of what people didn't want laundered so I will be sure to let them know that I will take care of washing Grandma's quilt as needed & maybe see if there isn't somewhere I can post a sign as well. Thank you both for the tips! :)

My mother's assisted living place was very careful with laundry and they cleaned very well too. I hope her arrangement wasn't unique. Either my sister or I visited every day. I don't know if that made a difference or not. We were very pleased with the place, the people, and the care... Mom had several quilts that were washed there, and they always came out just like they would have here at my home. Still, I guess it can't hurt to be cautious. :)
