Need quilt ideas
Can any of you quilters help me decide how to use some pashima shawls in a quilt? My nephew has sent me 20 of them in various colors from Malaysia. He knows that I quilt and he got them thinking that I could do something with them. I hate to disappoint him but I don't know where to start. I'm pretty sure that I will need to use a light weight stabilizer with them no matter how I use them. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts and ideas you might have. Thanks so much.

That is a tough one. The pashima shawls I have are soft and fairly loosely woven so I think using a stabilizer is a good one. I would worry about unraveling too, so would use big pieces--minimizing the cuts and no little pieces for sure. Something like the BQ pattern by Maple Island Quilts perhaps?

Could you use one as a panel, adding pieced borders and such.....then do some creative quilting on the shawl panel with a contrasting thread (kind of a whole cloth quilt)? I think I would do some type of a finishing stitch on the cut edges to secure the threads.

That is difficult to ponder if it doesn't have the strength of cotton fabric does for quilting.
