Need quilting advice

My quilting group is going to work on a new project soon. A member's daughter lost her home recently due to wildfires. I have offered a top which is already pieced that can be completed (by the group) and sent to the daughter. The top is the sweet menagerie pattern and has so many quilting possibilities. Here is my question... The ladies just want to use stitch in ditch, while I would like to use something more circular to break up the squares and give the quilt a little movement. Do I try to press my point a little or just go with the group? Perhaps a combination of everyone's ideas would work? Help!!!

Group dynamics are always a challenge!!!

Consider past situations ... how were they handled? what worked? and didn't?
Who are the leaders? the influencers? the followers?
How are they best managed for change?

Only you know the answer ... you know your group, and whether you want to go that path!!! Or whether it'd be an exercise in futility. And how best you can "change" their train of thought! (or if it's possible!)

When suggesting the quilting being done be more circular, why don't you take in some see through paper or plastic & a marking pen & show what you are talking about. A lot of people have to see it to understand it. I would suggest, if you are using a clear piece of plastic, either sew or glue an outside border (could be duct tape) on it do you don't accidently mark the quilt top itself. There are some wash out markers that could be used to mark up the quilts so that everyone is doing a similar pattern.

Is this the quilt pattern you are talking about? If so, it does look lovely with the Retro Feathers quilted on it. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/10/...tch-quilt.html

If it is the one from Moda, I see they have quilting it in Baptist Fans? Those do look really nice but I don't think you will have much luck convincing everyone to go with that design. When our guild does a group quilting bee, it is hard to get people to commit their time for getting it finished. A more intricate design other than SITD is going to take longer. You could always ask if anyone has a problem with you adding some quilting yourself after they are done? I wish you luck because you are sure to get some positive and negative feedback. I know quilters are generally nice people but there always seems to be someone in the group that will object.

quickly is better because of the need

I agree with all the above.

also: Who would be doing the quilting? That would be a major point for me.

They could have gone with tie-ing the quilt.

What a wonderful thing your group is doing.

You could always make the suggestion and see how it is received. Perhaps it's simply they don't want to take the extra time to do the additional quilting.
