I am working on finishing up this customer quilt and ran into a brain fog mess. Tell me if you think the boat block has enough quilting or what do I put in the space between the boat and the fishing crewel.
Then on the other block, I put fishing poles with this fishing crewel with a fish at the bottom, but what to quilt in the upper right blank area. I know, one is in gray and the other in tan, thread goof on my part, so will do the fishing pole block with gray in the background to bring the color to the other side so then it is a design choice not a thread goof. Yep, no quilt police here. This is making a design choice work. |
I like your quilting!!! Maybe next to the fishing rod a dragon fly or two. I know that when I have gone fishing those dragon flies are always hanging around. I suppose you could put one between the boat and the crewel too or try and quilt some type of fly fishing fly? Some type of bait jar or a hook with tangled line, or line with hook and a sinker on it?

I like it. Very creative and original. Maybe some watery waves in the large open areas just to hold those areas down. Doesn't need much because you don't want to take away form the fish, boat and (I love) the tackle box.

The upper right area of the pole block might be able to have some more weeds/cattails/vegetation. It looks to me like you are in the water looking toward the fish and the pole is on the bank, so you might be able to see some weeds in the background.

Great quilting. I do think those big open spaces do need something to keep the density of the quilting evenly distributed. On the one with the creel in the middle (the panel on the right, with no boat) I would duplicate the pine tree and cloud motif you have on the other. Perhaps in a slightly smaller scale to give the impression of it being further in the distance.
On the other panel I do like the idea of a dragonfly or two hovering above the water. Or you could duplicate your cattails and reeds peeking up from behind the creel. These two quilted panels are great and will be wonderful hanging up on a cabin wall. |
This website has some great quilting stencils http://www.shiboridragon.com/ If you search for "Pond Ripples", there is a stipple that I love to do whenever I want the feel of water. Also, it has some great dragonfly designs, which I also think would go great with the fish and creel designs.
Your designs are beautiful. |
Awesome quilting. how about a hook with a worm or a "bobber" as well.

That is a neat site.
There is not a full picture of the quilt so you can get the whole design. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51G3vLmhlmL.jpg But, what this quilt has on it is the extended version which I can't find a photo of. She put on the outer border these empty blocks to be quilted in which is what I am doing. They are not wallhangings, althought that is a great idea now that I have the quilting designs ready to be traced. I will post a finished product so you all can see what it is. Thanks for the input. |
You could do a water meander under the boat if you wanted to fill it in more. I like the idea of a couple of dragonflies zipping around in the empty space beyond the fishing poles.
