Hi everyone

If any of you can put me in the right direction for this...

I need to find a real easy pattern and I mean easy for a beginner who needs to make either a Table Topper or a Wall Hanging. I have til Dec of this year to make it and to get it finished.

The size can't be any smaller than a 12 x 12 or 24 x 24.

I was thinking a 9 Patch Table Topper or maybe a Wall Hanging...I already checked out the tutorials on here and I really like the 9 patch idea the best.

What is a Rail Fence Pattern and where can I find Instructions or the Pattern for this?

I'm just new on here and a Beginner so I will have lots of Questions.

Thanks for your help...

I wold check out the doll quilt threads here as well, they have a bunch in that size category and there is a little bit of everything there, give you an idea what you can be doing and how hard or easy they can be. Most will share what they did to get it,

My very first quilt block was Ohio Star, and is still one of my favorites. It is also easy to make in any size.

Hello and welcome from another Northern Indiana quilter.

You've probably already checked out this site, but I want to mention it. quilterscache.com
There's blocks for all levels of experience, plus some good ideas.

I believe the Log Cabin pattern is perfect for a beginner, that's what I started with. Also Disappearing 9 patch and Warm Wishes are easy too. Good luck and Welcome!

warm wishes is a great beginner quilt (and even for us old-timers) looks fantastic and easy as can be...

I would love to make something like that only in a smaller size version like a 12 x 12 size or a WAll Hanging in the size of 24 x 24...

Is that Possible?

Let me know...thanks for all of your help...

:D Hi I am a two year quilter and still think of myself as a beginner. I think a simple 4 patch would be easiest and put strips between each block will reduce the matching corners(I am still working on that). Have fun only you will know where the mistakes are. :

beginnerquilter 01-08-2010 09:17 AM

Thanks for that tip...I think I just may use that one...

Oh wow..that is neat...I love this one...I think I will make one just like yours...only in different colors and probably smaller.

Thanks for showing yours.

beginnerquilter 01-08-2010 11:58 AM

What size are your squares that are in the block itself?

nativetexan 01-08-2010 12:10 PM

to get 24 inch size total, your blocks could be 4 across of six inch, or 6 across of four inches. very simple. just divide into the finished size you want to find what size blocks would work.
good luck.

watterstide 01-08-2010 12:12 PM

here is the instructions..on the web.
http://www.thethriftyneedle.com/class-4PatchBaby.asp

you can make it as many blocks across and down as you want.

your border could be any size too..if i put 2 borders on it,
i cut 2 and 1/2 inches Width of Fabric and the outside border would be cut at 4 and 1/4 inches WOF (width of fabric)..
sometimes i make a square baby quilt, sometimes i make a rectangle baby quilt..

we are all here if you need any help..

I recommend the Rail Fence. It is a very forgiving pattern and looks great finished out. Here is the pattern from Quilter's Cache.
