I found the idea for this quilt on a scrapbook website, its called the Dahlia Cross(if anyone wants the name of the site, please pm me, there are great directions there on the site). I just modified the instructions to fabric and fused medium weight interfacing to one layer of fabric, in place of the double sized paper used in the instructions. I used a dinner plate for the larger circle( its the lower piece) and the other three were cake plate size circles.
I'm wanting to use several different cross block designs for a border around the red base fabric. I made a sample yo-yo for the center of the cross but I think it needs to be larger and so I had to buy a different blue print fabric to have enough for the blocks. I checked Quilter's Cache and couldn't find anything, I was hoping some of you might have some recommendations. I wanting to use something a little different and unique not like the nine-patch cross. Something that when you step back, you see the cross shape. I would appreciate any suggestions, I'm donating the wall hanging to my Sunday School class. They have been such good friends, thought this would be a good way of saying thank you! Chris |

Thank you, Cheri! Can't believe you were able to find this many blocks. Your Star of the East block is beautiful! Love how the two tone fabric of the star gives the star dimension. Chris

Thanks for the compliment Chris and you're welcome for the help :)
What I liked about the Star of the East block was the image of the star over the cross. To me, it represents the complete story from the beginning (star) to the end (cross). As you can see, if you look at my outer points, I had some trouble putting it together. The pattern was smaller than I wanted and I "tried" to enlarge it. Good luck with your project. Post pics for us!! |
I don't know how to pm but would love to have info ty

I'm sorry that I didn't post the link originally but I thought the moderators wouldn't appreciated a scrapbooking website listed but I've gotten the "okay" to list it. Here it is www.sharoncheng.com Once you're on the website, scroll down and the right side of the page look for "Archives". Click on 2010, then on Mid-March-April 4. The tutorial was posted on April 3, its called the Dahlia Cross. Hope this helps and sorry for the confusion! Chris
