I have 3 yards of fabric that I want to use without having to cut it into pieces. I thought that maybe I could cut it in one piece but I am second guessing that idea. What would you do? It is not directional fabric so I could get away with piecing it what would you do? If I do cut it in to managable pieces do I cut the fabric at an angle at the end or cut it straight across? I am having serious withdrawls and my mind is not functioning after my thread order came in today and I really need to do something even if I cannot sew it maybe I can cut the fabric :) SIGH I so need my machine back.....

I would definately cut it in to managable strips... personally ( I know... it's not the right way to do it... but)If their is not many curves/turns on the binding ( such as no scallops) I do not cut it on the bias. I cut straight pieces and then join them together with a diagonal ( bias) seam. I think a diagonal joining looks nicer than a blunt joining... Mostly , it is a personal choice

When in doubt as to exactly what you want to do with the fabric....then do NOTHING! Don't cut it. It may need to sit on the shelf awhile awaiting for that perfect project it was bought for.

If you're wanting to use it for borders then wait until the entire rest of the top is completed. You will then block if needed, iron and starch your top. Then after measuring determine what you need for your borders. Then check and measure twice more. Then cut them. If necessary ask someone to check your measuring before cutting.

Audition the fabric against the top and get opinions.

if you feel comfortable cutting one long strip, do it that way. be careful of the "wavys". if you use pieces, join on the diagonal, it looks better and will be less bulky. i prefer one long strip when possible.
