Sew four strips, one of each color, together to form a block. Turn your block 90 degrees and cut it into strips. You now have strips of four blocks, one of each color. Sew these strips together, end to end, to form your border strip.

This is the way to do it easily, but all your blocks will be the same. You could turn them to make it different, or you could make two, three or four of the strip sets in different order, cut them and sew them together alternately.

I used a combination of people's ideas! I sewed 2 colours together in 10 inch lengths and then sewed the other two colours together in 10 inch lengths. Repeated this a couple of times, varying the colour combo's.

Sewed the two strips together to make 4 rows of different colours / arranged in different "layers" and then cut them into one inch strips. Sewed those together ...

Here's what it looks like ... do you think it suits this wall hanging as a border?

To answer your question, do you want the border to stand out, or the wall hanging itself to stand out? Personally, I think a simple border would best accentuate the lovely wall hanging. Save the cute border for something a little less outstanding.

I like the look of this border.

Love that checkerboard. You did a great job mixing up the colors so that they look random. I think it would look great on that quilt. The colors fit, and it isn't something you would spend a lot of time looking at; it's just a background. I think we would look at the larger pieces in the quilt.
