Need some ideas
 

Want to make a quilt for DGD for graduation in June. She loves blue/Aqua batiks. I'm at the beginner/intermediate level and I think that I want to offset the batiks with a crisp white. Looking for pattern suggestions. Thank you in advance!!!

The brick tutorial looks pretty easy. I think the nation would look great with the white! I just have to cut the pieces differently since I'm not using the layer cakes :)

This isn't your colors, but could accommodate any colors. My daughter saw a quilt similar to this on Pinterest and we tried to figure out the pattern. Two dyslexic people sewing on the same quilt, several seams ripped, "haha", but the results was better than I expected.

Edited to add: We made 2 stratas of 10 different shading fabrics per WOF, 3.5 inches wide. One strata was purples, blues and greens and the other was reds, golds and pinks. The largest width is 3 inches finished. Then we varied the cutting by 1/4". Our quilt did not turn out like the title of the one we admired....Ricky Timms Rhapsody, but it was fairly close. We discovered that we probably should have made the fabrics on each end of the fabrics as a 4.5 inch cut, so it finished at 4 or 4.5 inches. That way, maybe some of them would not have matched up quite so evenly. Jacob, the 17 year old young man loved his Christmas quilt. He is tall, so we made sure it was longer then 78 inches. I don't remember what we finished at, but it was a lot of fun. We filled in with the black background fabric to fill out to the width and length we wanted. We wanted the center to be the focus, so we didn't add any contrasting borders.

It's called Monkey Business and from the Scrap Basket Surprises book by Kim Brackett.
There is a cream background on this one, but would look great with white.
The problem that I find with white is that it's harder to find a good quality fabric that doesn't show seams and loose threads so I tend not only use white with pastels.

This would look great using batiks.

A bargello gives off a beautiful complex look, with really very little effort to get there.

This pattern is called Lightening Strikes.

It was the very first quilt I ever did. I've seen it done in many colors, and your color choices would be very nice. Turned out spectacular in the blacks/grays/whites/reds my daughter had requested.

The Carpenter Star really is easy - it may have been my 3rd quilt. Once you get over your 'fear' of HSTs, there's nothing to it, except squaring up the HSTs is a pain in the neck - just boring. I used the pattern from Maryquilts.

I second the bargello idea. Or you could do a Trip Around the World. Eleanor Burns has a great video on YouTube (called Quick Trip I think) showing how to do it. You could use the same strip sets to make a bargello.

What size are you aiming for? For high school graduation you might want a quilt that she can use on a dorm bed at college. Most of those are twin XL, and a bricks, bargello, or AVFD's design would be easier to stretch in length than a larger block size.

Most of the patterns of Jenny doan/MSQC are easy yet cute! Altho she used precuts, you can easily translate that to yardage...

Boston1954 did a beautiful quilt of boxed squares. Easy pattern and the results are beautiful.

Put the two together with 9 batiks (8 in the star and one background) and you have my daughter's birthday quilt. You can use many fewer fabrics. I have one cut out with only two colors and a background. I rarely purchase patterns, so I hope this helps.

Summer in the park is nice done in white and batiks. I do not know how to attach pictures but you can see it on pintrest.

MSQC, Jennie Doan just posted a new quilt that is done in 30's fabrics but I think it would also look fabulous in batics. It's called 4 x 4. It's her latest tutorial.

I made this one a couple years ago. It's easy enough to expand with more blocks . You can see it's just HSTs.

Check out the tutorials on Missouri Star Quilt Company. Jenny Doan has tons of great patterns for all levels and maybe one will jump out at you.

Carpenter Star is an easy pattern, plus you don't have to use the borders that IrishRose2 used. I have made 2 of this pattern but with a straight border , not hard at all. Although I love this border a lot.
