Hi! I've finished the Mystery lessons at Electric Quilt called Skylights. After finishing them I liked the quilt so much, I've decided to make it; but I need some "reassurance" about what I'm thinking about doing!!!
The picture of quilt is included in the link, scroll down about half way down passed the diagrams of the blocks.

I want to use slightly different colors than what is suggested. I would like to use in the log cabin blocks( lightest color above and behind the buildings) a more peach coral color to resemble sunset. Then just above that(still in the light area) a very light shade of blue rising up to the dark areas. So there won't be near as light color as the picture shows and would look more a evening sunset. Then instead of the yellow stars I'm thinking about making them white.
Am I too far off base with what I thinking? I already have a special title for the quilt if I can do it this way. Sure would appreciate any thoughts! This will be my first "really big" project and want to do it right. I love the fabrics I've collected so far! Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

It's your quilt and you can use whatever colors and fabrics that you want. You can even change your mind as you're making the quilt. It sounds like a wonderful plan. Go for it!

Please keep us updated on your quilt as you progress through your project with pictures if possible.

Good luck!

I think it would look good with the changes you are thinking about making. I always change colors when making a quilt using someone else's pattern. I feel that it makes it more "my" quilt then.

Hi! Thank you both! Sometimes I have a hard time trusting my judgment about colors! Chris

It sounds like it will be wonderful! Do make sure to show us pictures as you start it. I can't wait to see it. :)

You're welcome. I'd love to see your quilt when it's done. I really like the pattern.

Have you tried out your color combination in EQ? If you have the equipment, you could scan your fabric into your computer and play with the fabric right on the screen.

This has to be one of the main reasons I love EQ. I don't have to cut until I have what I like on the screen.

of course you can do it your way! and it sounds like it will be beautiful!
it's your project...you can make it any way you want, with what ever fabrics you want where ever you want them...make it your own

Hi! I had tried on one other project to scan fabrics and add them to library but I think I did it the wrong way, could never get the fabrics added to the library. This morning I went to the Help tutorials and found something on scanning fabrics so I'm going to give that a try.
When I can get my cutting table cleared off of other projects(lol!!!) I take a picture of the fabrics. Its amazing how many different fabrics are needed; found some that look like marble and granite for the taller buildings.
Thanks for all the encouragement. Take care, Chris
