I am having a new great grandson and my grand daughter and her husband love music and she'd like me to use that as a them for the new baby quilt. There isn't really much fabric out there that says music and baby. There is a black with lots of bright colored music symbols, how in the world can I put that in a baby quilt. There is some nice music themed fabric but not for a baby quilt. Any ideas??? There is also some fabric that resembles a keyboard I could use for a border. I'm more a copy gal, not too original.

I know ZERO about this seller but they came up with some cute stuff when I Googled for music fabric:

I tend not to make baby quilts because they grow fast and develop their own interests. I would use music fabrics and make the quilt you know they will like and use. The baby will use it for years to come.

I have looked at this fabric but the ones that were age appropriate is out of stock. I have googled it all. I'm beginning to think I just need a pattern that I could use the black fabric in and still look like a baby quilt.

Did you call them?

Baby eyes much prefer back, white and bright color contrast. Much more stimulating too than pastels.

JulieR 05-05-2011 07:03 PM

You could also not worry about the fabric and instead try to find a pattern with music-related applique

I love the black and white musical theme fabrics I've seen. Have not seen the one with brights on black but you could combine either one with bright primary colors in a D9P or some other simple design and it would be spectacular.

Ditto ... D9P or D4P

Or black and white musical note fabric with a multi brigh coloured piano key border.
Or some appliqued music notes and symbols ... they wouldn't have to be in black and white ... could do in multi colours.

♪♫♫♪ Perhaps you'd be best to be honest with your DGD that you are somewhat stumped as to what to do. She may have some firm ideas ... and if you don't ask, she may be disappointed with what you decide to do!

♪♫♫♪ Good Luck ♪♫♫♪

My thoughts exactly! Black and White fabrics with dots and swirls and music notes and a bright accent fabric would be really cute!

Neena 05-05-2011 08:08 PM

I saw a picture of a baby quilt on this board where they appliqued the words

eat,
play,
sleep,
repeat

on the front of the quilt. The "play" could refer to playing music, right?

The background was all one fabric. You would do the background in white and black music note fabric, and then back it with the music note fabric with the primary color music notes. The words could be appliqued in red (or one of the other primary colors from the back) on the white and black side. Meander for the quilting and then bind it in the color you use for the words...it would be a more modern baby quilt.

Check out these "rockin frogs" they are pretty cute!

I agree, even the black, white and red would be a good growing up quilt. Especially if the theme is something they love.:)
