My children, who are 9, 8, and 5 all want to learn how to sew. What would be some fun and easy things they could make with my leftover scraps? Once they get the hang of it, I'll buy them their own material. I was thinking of just a small scrappy quilt they could make together. Any ideas you all have would be greatly appreciated!!!

A small scrappy quilt sounds fantastic! You could do an "I spy" quilt! Maybe they could make it big enough that all three could watch a movie under it...or build a fort...forts are important!
Congrats on your little bundles of budding enthusiam!

A small quilt sounds nice, but I'd make three small quilts, one for each! They'll want to make their own. I can't see them sharing, lol!!!

Maybe they could each make a small scrappy quilt of their own? Wall hanging size? That way they would each have their very own "first" quilt?

I started my 5 year old granddaughter out on a small quilt. I gave her a box with leftover strips, charm squares and bigger squares. I let her sew pieces together in straight lines and taught her to lay them on a design board to make her own design. She was 6 (last Christmas) when she made this quilt.

The great thing about kids is that they CAN do anything, unlike us adults who believed everyone when we were told "You can't do that."

Keep telling your kids they can, and they will.

How awesome that your children want to sew!! My 10 year old granddaughter is working on her first project - we chose a lap size "Yellow Brick Road"...we're still working on it :) It's been a very satisfying experience - and you are in for a fun, family time!

I just saw a tutorial (from a thread on here) the other day that was an easy first quilt for kids. I bookmarked for my daughter to make one. It is called a ticker tape quilt. Here it is...
