Need suggestions on finishing a quilt...

I have this top finally done and am ready to quilt it. But I can't decided if I should do steps (follow the white lines) or just do straight lines up and down. I think the steps would be cute but it is a pattern brown backing (sock monkey texture). BTW this picture is from a week or so ago when I was just laying the pattern out to make sure I had all blocks so I know it is uneven.

Thoughts?

Follow the zig-zags. There will be more interest for the front and the back will look fine!

Thanks! Next question, should I do both sides of the white for a box look on the back or just one side? Batting calls for 2" to 4" apart.

I would do both sides if that is the quilting you are planning to do on it. I think I would do something else like diagonal lines from corner to corner, ect.

Diagonal, um, didn't think of that. Would that take away from the steps on the front though?

I should have been a little clearer. I would go from the right top corner to the bottom left corner. Then about 3 inches apart on each side of it on the whole top. In my opinion it would add interest to the quilt, but that's just my opinion.

I knew what you meant. :) Thanks!

It looks like your quilt inspector approves. Mine also has to be in the middle of everything.

As I was cutting some fabric for another blanket, hubby saw why it takes me so long. The fabric is dangerous and the cats have to attack it to keep me safe. lol

And I decided to go zig zag, and glad I did since I found a block placed wrong. Thankfully on the end so easily fixed. It is now quilted, squared, and ready for binding.

I would follow all the lines...both sides of the white. Can't tell how much distance is between the lines on the color, but if less than the maximum listed, go for it.
