Need suggestions on Manly quilt patterns
Something easy to knock out. I want to make surprise quilts for two of our boys. Both of them are adults in their 30's.
One loves Camo prints and the other loves the color green. Take 5 is already been used by two I made for the grandkids. Nothing to complex as one has to be made by April 29th. The other can wait till June. |
I'm working on variation of Hunter's Star with camo and a panel for my oldest who does hunt and a red and black hst for the youngest.

Someone posted their Camo quilt done in a French Braid variation called " Snake in the Grass" . It was one of the nicest Camo quilts I've seen.

the quick pattern I go for is a disappearing nine patch. |
Have you thought of Warm Wishes for the Camo. Just make the center block 8.5" and extend the length of the sashing from 6" to 8.5". With the green, I would do an easy Bargello in shades of green.

Have you looked at the free patterns on the sites for the different fabric companies. The patterns are usually under the link "Projects". If you like it, better print it out now because in a year or so, the pattern will either convert to for sale on the designer's website, or be replaced with what is new. Wilmington Prints, Alexander Henry, Timeless Treasures, and Springs Creative, are a few companies that come to mind. Beautiful fabric draws me in and I like when the pattern uses large blocks of it instead of cut into little pieces.

I think any pattern will do. I think that fabric choice has more to do with a quilt being manly or more feminine. As for quick patterns, Warm Wishes, any of the Turning Twenty variations or Yellow Brick Road are all quick patterns that look much more difficult than they are. Irish Chain and Jacob's Ladder are also 'manly' and relatively easy

here's a link to the camo quilt posted earlier http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t276916.html

Take a look at the Tutorial I posted called "Five Easy Pieces Charity Quilt" in the Tutorial section of this board. I think this is a great masculine pattern. It would work great with greens and camo fabrics, perhaps use pale olive or tans as at the sashing. Really quick quilt to make.

Warm Wishes or a chevron made using strips instead of HSTs. For Warm Wishes, I cut my squares at 7 1/2" and the strips at 3 1/2" for the center one and 2 1/2" for the side ones. My chevron blocks are 3 1/4" by 6 1/2, though I don't cut blocks . I sew strips and then cut.
