Need suggestions on what color to use for HQ
2 Attachment(s)
Need some help ladies. I want to finish HQ this quilt, but I'm at a lost. I knew I wanted to make snowflakes of red in the solid blocks, which I've completed today ( Used pearl cotton and big stiches). Now I'm at a lost. Since the fabric is Kona Snow, I said to myself, white would not be bad for the rest of the quilting, but I don't want to use white to quilt inside the stars. What should I do? Should I choose maybe green or red and alternate according to the star, or should I use just one dark color and keep it consistant. This is my first attempt at PP something of this magnitude ( thanks to Pat Sloan and the Splendid Sampler), so I don't want to mess it up. Thanks for helping me with this dilemma . if it were mine, i'd quilt the background white and use matching colors for the stars... i'm a matchy matchy type. if that doesn't suit you, i might try a gray for the stars... but the background should remain white white IMHO

It goes back to the old question - do you want your quilting to stand out or fade? If you want the piecing and background quilting to be the show stoppers, get colors that closely match the colors you are quilting. If you want the pieced stars to stand out, I would use a lighter color thread in the dark areas and a dark thread in the light areas.
I don't think I'd use white in your pp'd stars. I think that would be too stark. I would probably use - for example - a red in the green; green in the red; and so on. But that's me. |
Your big stitch looks lovely! I might connect the points of your snowflakes between the blocks and big stitch around the pieced block motifs. I then think I might switch to matching thread inside the motifs and use regular quilting thread.

You have done a wonderful job so far. I bet you will continue to do so whatever you do.

I would also go with white around the stars and a medium grey in the stars. Lovely so far!

Why not outline 1/4" outside the stars in the same color thread you already used and then see if you want more quilting. If you do, then you can add inside the stars and I think I would use the same color thread.

I'm liking your idea, which is kind of what I was thinking, just didn't have all those color quilting threads. Thanks for helping me out. |
