Need thoughts on finishing this wall hanging
 

I purchased this cute precut kit from Keepsake Quilting (thank goodness I got the precut! Teeny, tiny pieces!) and did all the fusing. It's ready for quilting. Once quilted it will get more 3D leaves attached in the binding. There are about 4-5 3D leaves now on it between the two borders.

I will be quilting it on my long arm--still not sure what thread I'll use. But here is my question--with some pieces (eyes) so itsy-bitsy, should I layer some tull over it before quilting to insure that no pieces fall off at a later date? Or just quilt it.

I was thinking tull--but not sure how I'd manage to allow the 3D to stay 3D, I thought maybe i could just use tull over the center but not sure how to get it polished on the edges. ideas???

Also--if anyone has quilted one of these types of fused wall hangings that has several fused layers--did you have any issues with quilting it?[ATTACH=CONFIG]587063[/ATTACH]

Thanks, Tartan. I like your idea of doing a little stitching before sandwiching. Think I'll do that with the eyes--which is my biggest concern. I'd thought about using washable wool bat but rethinking that as it might be too puffy--thoughts??

Just a thought - you could buy black eyes (from the doll dept at Michaels) and use them or check out the black buttons that look like a half ball. If you can find the right size they might look really good.

Since it's a wall hanging, it really won't get much wear so if something should "fall off" in the future you could just fuse it back on. Tulle would really dull the look, like Tartan commented.

I have had trouble stitching through some fusibles. You probably should have a couple of new needles ready, and I find alcohol based hand cleaner works to clean off the occasional stickiness on a needle.
