Need triangle/hexagon help
 

I am trying to make a "tuffet" for my daughter using 6 - 15" equilateral triangles on each side that are then joined with 15" by 5" strips of fabric. The directions I'm using say to mark dots a quarter inch inside all the sides, and attach the strips to the sides of the triangles first. But then it seems to indicate I should sew all the way to the edge of the fabric in every step. How do I join all these pieces? Do I sew all partial seams til all the pieces are together? Sew partial seams only on the triangles and not on the strips? I am confused. Can anyone tell me how this should work? TIA

does sound confusing. Not having actually seen the pattern, I'm guessing that the top and bottom are made from 6 60 degree triangles, with the strip joining them to form the sides. Assuming this is the case, I would cut the side rectangle a bit long. Then I would do all the triangle seams except one, on both the top and bottom portions, then attach the side, aligning the triangle seams across this piece. When you've attached the rectangle all the way around, to both the top & bottom, sew the last seam in the top and the side seam. Then part of the last seam on the bottom. Turn, stuff, hand stitch the opening, add the buttons & give it to little miss muffet.
