Need your expert advice on Viking 875Q
 

I'm thinking of buying the Viking 875Q to replace my beloved Viking D1. I love the D1 and the 875 has the same features I use since I don't use the embroidery feature on my D1. My D1 has never needed repair and am concerned that the 875 may not be as good. I am only considering this purchase because of the 10 inch throat that would really come in handy for me since I do my own quilting.
You guys are the experts. Can any of you that own a 875 let me know if you love it and it has been trouble free.

I purchased the Viking Sapphire 835 just over a year ago. I took a class at the shop I purchased it from. Learned quite a bit, this machine has quite a few more bells and whistles than I'm used to! I love the alphabet and the ability to make "quilt labels" that I can then decorate with single motif embroidery designs. I have done some garment repair, various types of quilt piecework and the majority use, main reason I bought it, learning how to free motion quilt. The additional space in the harp or throat area is fabulous!

As for repairs, my newbie is due it's first year checkup, but I haven't had any real problems with the machine, just had to learn that it's a bit cranky if you don't thread it just so! And with the FMQ, I have a pretty good idea what an empty bobbin sounds like! If you can afford the price difference, I'd say the 875Q is a good choice. Especially if you are getting it from a good shop!

i have the 140C...which is essentially a red 855. bought it this summer, it's my second viking. i love it!

I have had the Sapphire 830 for over 2 years and really love the extra large harp area. I do all my own FMQ up to 120 "x 120" I do not own the machine you are interestedin but I can tell you that my Husky sews 29.9 days out of 30 and the only l reason I took it to the shop was to get the lint out of it! After 125+ quilts I thought it might be time :)

I've had my Viking 6020 for 44 years and it is the only machine I use. When my kids were small I sewed all their clothes including jeans and snowmobile suits as well as their underwear. I also sewed and did alterations for other people. My husband worked nights and I sewed nearly every day from 8pm until midnight when he got done. It still works like new even though all I use it for now is quilting. Now granted, it is not an electronic machine like the new ones but it is a workhorse! What I like best is that I can give it a really thorough cleaning myself and don't need to take it in for regular service. The only trouble I've had is when I lost my regular foot and the ankle in the waste basket when I had the walking foot on. Must have slid off the table and into the waste basket unnoticed. I had no trouble replacing it and am still really happy with my machine.

I've had my Sapphire 870Q for about five years. Once I found out what brand of thread it liked I was off and running. I make all of my quilts from beginning to end on my 870Q. I purchased a Free Motion Quilt foot and have quilted all my quilts on my Viking. Since I have very tall (two are 6'7") men in my family I do the FMQ in two parts and then sew them together. Like Georgia Bonestill's method.
