Either pattern in blacks and whites would be GREAT on this chair..........with the wood painted a crisp white.......you jst HAVE TO post a pic of the chair when you are finished.

I am just going to suggest that you do NOT do Cathedral Windows. I realize that you aren't going to use it much - but so much work will go into something that would be distorted almost immediately. I imagine that if you were doing Pineapple blocks, and you pieced them on a fabric background (like paper piecing), it would be gorgeous. While recovering things you need to stretch them tight for a good fit and that would give stability to your piecing. Black and whites? Oh fabulous!

After you check to see if the chair is valuable, I like the last one, the vintage pattern. I too think the cathedral window would be kind of "lumpy" to actually sit on. You have a real find -have fun with it.

Love the quilted furniture, but I'd like the double wedding ring or the dresden plates as the pattern used to better fit the style of the chair. Also hope you choose colors rather than B&W. I'm also a "natural wood" girl....hate to see it painted white. But it'll probably look great with whatever you decide. I'd love to see it when it's done!! Ellen

I already like it the way it looks now. It is beautiful and you should see if it is worth any money as is. Check underneath it for a designer name and date. If none then it would look beautiful as you have described in any of the patterns.

I like the Vintage pattern from Moda and it would look great in black and white. I like the wood as is, but I think it would also look good painted. I probably would check to see if it is worth someyhing first. Recovering would probably not the value but painting might. But in the end it is your chair and you can do what you like best.

I just finished covering cushions for a rocking chair. Since the seat and the back are different sizes, I would suggest that you draw on a wrapping tissue paper , the setting of your blocks. For a maximum effect, pick a large block 12’ or 16’ and put borders around it, till you reach the size you need. It seems like a lot of work but the time you will spend to prepare your ’masterpiece is worthed. If you choose repeat blocks make them in a small size 4 or 6 inches.

i think less is best, the chair frame is ornate

Not sure you really want my opinion! You can tell by my avatar I like old things - I can't imagine painting this chair white! So sad. I agree with sewnsewer, many a true antique has been ruined because the owner wasn't aware of what they had. Although I wouldn't care for what you are doing, I wish you luck if you choose to do it!
