Need your quilting wisdom...please

Okay, I have been hand quilting and machine sewing on this quilt in sections using Warm and Natural Batting (says quilting 10" quilting or less is great) however, I have the multicolor sash which is 12 inches long by 3 wide. I have stitched in the ditch around it but do I need to put some type of quilting in the middle area or is the stitch adequate to hold the batting together? I have machined stitched in the the blue colored area and have hand stitched around the stars. Let me know, just didn't want to let it go thinking it wouldn't fall apart. Probably won't in my lifetime...thanks for your guidance "Oh Great Quilters!" Here is a picture that I hope will help.

Yes, you should put some quilting in the pieces that are 12 inches long even though they are only 3 inches wide.

Pretty quilt! I agree with Nammie.

You should quilt in the batting strips. You should always follow the guidelines on the batting package.
Now, I will confess. I have more than one quilt with W & N batting that I did not put extra quilting in the sashing strips. They are several years old. I've washed them many times and nothing has happened. I don't promise they won't fall apart the next time I wash them. |
I am usually NOT a rule breaker but if you are not worried about the batting shifting, then don't quilt it. I have always assumed that it is a 10" and we are discussing a 3"x 12". I think you will be fine. If you are hand quilting, you could quilt a small star in the center to secure the batting. Bit I believe you will be OK.

Very beautiful quilt. Just getting into fmq so no advice but had to let you know how beautiful.

I agree with ManiacQuilter. I think you should be fine even though your strips are 12" long. You've quilted your cornerstones at the end of each sashing piece as well as on both sides so while you're a tad over the 10" in length on the sashing pieces, you've stablized each side plus your quilting in the blocks. Very pretty quilt.

I Would quilt more, but it will probably be fine.
