Needing advise on border

I'm needing opinions on my border. Which do you think looks better. The one with the white or the one without? I'm still fairly new to quilting so any suggestions or input would be sincerely appreciated.

I personally prefer the border without the white

Me, I like the white thin border and the black fabric for binding. I have that same fabric and just love it! I personally think the purple and black together are too dark and the white in the quilt pops as a border.

Like jparsels, I prefer the border without the white -- I think it is too stark a contrast.

I prefer it without the white. Having said that, I would put the white first, then the other borders.

I perfer the one without just my thoughts

Without white.

I kind of like the white but it is rather a stark contrast - not much help. If using the white I would put it next to the small blueish border, then the purple then the black. It looks like the purple is already sewn on, so I probably wouldn't take it off. Wondering if you might have a green to go in between the purple and the black???

What if you were to make the white thinner, like a flanch.

Jingle 10-02-2012 06:44 AM

I like the white, as in the second pic.

2blackcats 10-02-2012 07:06 AM

I vote for the white, it makes the whole quilt pop! The flange idea is exciting.

Deborahlees 10-02-2012 07:11 AM

IMHO.....no white and cut the black outter border narrower....I personally think it is making to HUGE of a statment and detracting from the individual blocks. Do you have a planning board, you need to put this somewhere where you can step back and look at the overall effect.....just my thoughts...

I prefer the white. It seems to stop the eye - which I like!

Dina 10-02-2012 07:18 AM

I am no help, I think both look good. Beautiful quilt!!

I prefer the white. To my eyes it brings out the lighter blocks of the quilt.

Wanabee Quiltin 10-02-2012 07:52 AM

I think it needs the white, but not in the position it is in. I would put it first.

Louise Houghtaling 10-02-2012 08:01 AM

I, too, think a thin white flange would provide contrast without distraction.

MrsM 10-02-2012 08:08 AM

I like the one without the white.

PenniF 10-02-2012 08:20 AM

I like your idea of a narrow border between the purple and floral...but i don't think white...a little to "loud" that way - and this seems to be more of a "speaks softly" quilt. Love your color choices !!!!

sewmary 10-02-2012 08:44 AM

White seems too stark. I agree with a very thin white flange and play with re-arranging your borders.

Very lovely fabrics and nice quilt!

Cagey 10-02-2012 08:55 AM

I like the white - just maybe a little thinner. Beautiful quilt

Where is the quilt going? Is it a dark room or a light sunfilled room? Then it is your choice. Though I do like a small white inner border.

i like the white border best. it pops! in between the two darker borders.

117becca 10-03-2012 01:28 AM

I don't like the white because it's too stark - even if it was narrower. If you wanted to add another border, I think it needs to be one of the darker batiks/solids....

THANK YOU all for your wonderful comments. I will post a picture of the finished product.

bigsister63 10-03-2012 04:57 AM

I think you need a thinner white border. Quilt is very pretty. Nice job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DebbE 10-03-2012 05:24 AM

White, but thinner, just to break up the two colors. If its too wide it distracts. Nice quilt!
