Needing a kick start.

After finishing my bargello quilt I am in a bit of a slump. I am needing a new project. My statch has went through a growing spirt. Now, I have heard that she who leaves the biggest statch is the winner, Ladies, I want to Loose big time.So I was wanting to get some ideas as to what would be your next project ?

it's going to be more interesting that a straight set, but i'm not sure how yet.

i do so love those william morrison fabrics though and while the colour in this photo is off, the red is as ruby as could be.

love it. already been sitting on the fabrics for (omg) 10 years.

it's not going anywhere. i just have to finish up these other pesky layabout projects...heh.

I have a WIP that I need to finish because my DD just got engaged last weekend & I want to give it to her for an engagement gift. It's a Turning 20 made out of pastel (sherbet) batiks. I have the top all done except for the borders, which I need to order fabric for. I want to get it done ASAP so I guess instead of goofing around on the Board, I should be ordering border fabric & sewing!

Sometimes it is hard to get going, isn't it? I work 10-12 hours a day and my heart wants to sew when I get finished but my body and mind are often just too tired. Quantity I guess rather than quality. Try a new pattern or fabric, maybe a pillow top to get your heart in it.

Sometimes when I just don't know what to make, or have been in a slump I just start making 4 patches or 9 patches...there are so many possibilities with them and those quilts have turned out to be some of my favorites.

Sometimes after a large project , I find doing a few small easy things helps me to "cleanse" and renew. So make a few potholders, or a table runner. Maybe just dive into the scrap pile with a easy lap quilt. Before you know it the "debris" in your head will clear and you will be tackling something larger again.

Make quilts for a charity. Quilts for kids is a great one. Just need to make baby quilts and you know they work up fast. Link: http://www.quiltsforkids.org/

If you look through the picture gallery of this board, I'm sure inspiration will strike! If not, you'll enjoy the quilt show.

Have you tried any of Bonnie Hunter's patterns at Quiltville.com? Her Yahoo website is free also. Or- Maryquilts.com? Lots of free scrappy or controlled patterns. I like her strippy quilt pattern, or alternating 6 1/" novelty squares with 4 patches for easy satisfying quilts. I started cutting fabrics into various sized strips a la Bonnie Hunter's suggestions a few years ago, so I can just grab a bin or two and go to town. Since I make some novelty quilts I also have 4 1/2" and 6 1/2" strips and squares at the ready. I found that sorting fabrics, washing, ironing and cutting for a quilt became time consuming and mood killing when I had the urge to sew, so all my fabrics are already pre-washed and ironed, ready to cut if needed for a specific project. I don't make a lot of quilts, but when I have the urge and time to sew I want to "get a wiggle on" as my Mom used to say when I was being pokey.

My next quilting project (if ever finish the WIP) will be starting an I Spy kids' quilt. :)

It is interesting that you mention bargello quilt. I found that I had the same feeling after I completed mine. I find bargello quilts mentally draining. Or maybe it's just me

Liont, Maybe that is whats going on, Please dont get me wrong I loved the bargello(Lovers Knot) and will do another soon. But after that one, I have only made a wall hanging for my brother, that has the look of movie reels with black and white pictures of his 2 sons on it, now i have a bed skirt and curtains to make and dont really want to do them. So I thought if I found a "gotta do" quilt I would get the other stuff done.Just got to make that first cut I guess....

Yes, I remember your beautiful Bargello:)
When I am in a stump, it's a sign that my brains needs a rest, to clear out. So I play along and do simple repetitive things, while continuing to read and look at nice stuff.
I usually have a few WIP, or tops waiting to be quilted. So these can take up some of the idle time.
Then inspiration will come, and you will be more energetic for it!
