Needle question
What are your favorite brand and size needles for piecing your quilt tops?
Schmertz Microtex 80/12. I have used other brands, but not other sizes.
Same as Irish Rose. At a recent class, my embroidery machine was in a snit. The owner gave me a pack of those and the problems were solved.
I do have a box filled with Klasse and Schmetz various types and sizes but will stick with these for now. I do change needles regularly. My dealer recommends to change out needles after eight hours of stitching. |
My Elna came with Organ needles, and the seller said the machine threader preferred them. I haven't gotten the threader to work for me yet, so I also use the Schmetz needles I had on hand. I use 80/12 size for piecing and 90/14 for quilting.
the needles that came with my Janome was Organ needles. I buy them on line 100 at a time. size 11 they come ten in a pack and I buy 10 packs
I use Superior needles.
The same as mic-pa, Organ needles purchased on Amazon. It is the only kind my Janome machine is suppose to use. They work well. Otherwise, the Schmetz Microtex 80/12, because they have a very sharp point and I have a lot of them that I used to get at JoAnn's when they were 50% off.
My Janomes love Organ 90/14.
So the "Janome" needles and the Organ needles are the same?
Schmetz or Organ size 80/12 for piecing.
I generally go with the Schmetz 80/12 Microtex for piecing, although I may use 70/10 with batiks.

Yes, it is Organ that makes the needles for Janome. You can get lots of Organ needles for next to nothing on Amazon, in comparison to the cost of the Janome needles or Schmetz.

I love Schmetz 75/11. In fact, I am very happy when I find a package of all that size.
I must add after reading what Rhonda said, that when I first started quilting, I knew nothing about changing needles often, and would let mine go for a year or more. Boy was I dumb!! |
I use Schmetz 90/14 for everything, but I think I will change to an 80/12 for piecing since that is what so many others use.
