Needle Threader for Sewing Machine
 

Does anyone have any experience to share with needle threaders for a sewing machine? I searched the thread topics and couldn't find anything on threaders to use with a sewing machine. Maybe this is a dumb question..... Perhaps you use the same threaders used for hand sewing, just remove the needle from the machine first? Seems that the machine needles would be much thicker and not work. Thanks!

I really love the hummingbird threader we mention there for the machine needles (yes, leave the needle in the machine!).

The hummingbird threader works for sewing machines. I leave the needle in when threading it.

I have a Dritz Machine Needle Inserter Threader for my longarm - it works great. But most of the time I just use old fashion Bees Wax - I run the thread through the Bees Wax several times then snip the thread at an angle. It then is easy to thread the needle with it.

I use (and gift) this nifty little item a lot. There is one available at each and every machine. It is available at https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/ and is Item Number 7772 Needle Threader, Perfect Sew. They're quite inexpensive.

But don't forget this easy peasy help in threading sewing machine needles as well. Keep a plain white index card piece about 1" x 2" near your machine. Prop it up behind the sewing machine needle so that you can see the hole clearly and I believe you'll find threading ever so much easier. I regularly use either or both of these methods.

I just use a plain old regular threader to thread my machine. Leave the needle in the machine. My machine is supposed to have a threader but I've never found it easy to use so just use a regular threader when I'm having difficulties.

I have an automatic threader on my machine but it never seems to work correctly so I just get the thread thru the eye of the needle and use a pair of tweezers to pull it through. I would think that taking the needle completely out would really be time consuming.

Yes, I read a few post on bees wax. Various conclusions. I found an old bees wax lip gloss I had and it works great for both my machine and hard sewing needles! Think I might try the Perfect Sew one, though. Dritz did not work for me.

I just ordered two of the Needle Threaders Perfect Sew...one for each of my main sewing machines.

Thanks everyone. As they are so inexpensive, I will try the super easy threader (with the hook) and the humming bird.

I use the dental floss threader, cheaper than any other and works great.

There are also needles with a slit on one side that you slide the thread down, and the thread pops in. They call them "handicap needles." Also, if you sew with "topstitch" needles, the eye is longer, so there's a bigger hole to put the thread into.

My two Elna's have needle threaders, have used them, actually I should say that now only one of my Elna's has the needle threader, because I had my machine guy take it off on the one I use the most.

That is the one I use and it is very helpful. I also have the hummingbird and it works well, too. I have also used the serger needle threader.

The is a flat spot on the shank behind the needle on my machine and I just painted it white so the eye would show better. Really helped me a lot.
