I still do it I have done it for a long time off and on and I am still not confident doing it. But I do it the best I can.

I love it where do you get the patter?

That is the only applique technique that I use. I love hand work of any kind. I do repairs and restorations so I have to practice all the time with my stitches. Detail and tiny have always been my thing. The smaller the better. To me it's worth the time it takes to complete the project.

I also do NTA and absolutely love it. It IS time-consuming, tho. I've done machine applique for quick projects that go to "children" or other family members who I know will wash the quilt alot. Have 3 NTA at the LA...am going to enter them in DM show...will post them sometime this summer when I get them back. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, like with anything else (along with a bit of patience) and you'll do just fine:) Have fun:)

I also love to teach this technique. It is something that takes a little practice but not hard to accomplish.

The basic applique stitch and getting nice curves and points is something I can teach in one class setting, but I warn you, once you master that, you will want to add to your skills by adding dimensional applique, smaller and smaller pieces, more detail, embroidery embellisment, and on and on it goes.

You're right! Once a needle gets in my hand I am stitching up everything in anyway possible!

Some enjoy the process and the result. Others like to get to the result faster. I'm not too interested in books or pattterns that emphasize the speed of a project. Dont' care for great big blocks just to finish quicker. But for many busy women today, that's the way to go.

I hope that in the future these hand techniques don't die out.

When you quilt applique, are you using decorative stitches? Or blind hem stitching?

I took a class in needle turn about 5 yrs ago and really enjoyed it. I made a baltimore album wall hanging. I havn't done much since and need to get back to it. I found it relaxing.

I just taught myself how to needle turn applique because I saw a darling piggy I wanted to do for my great niece. I am now working on my second project and am enjoying it. I will continue to machine piece other quilts but will also occasionally do needle turn.

I started a Baltimore last month using needle turn and my hand is feeling quite stiff, numb and painfull. I havn't figured if it is the gardening or the sewing. -- I find my stitches are more of a blind stitch than needle turn. With this project I used the freezer paper, starch and iron method.
