Needles for Singer 185-J Sewing Machine
1 Attachment(s)
Been on the Internet this morning trying to find out what size needles and bobbins my new "old" vintage Singer sewing uses. Found out I need Class 66 bobbins and 15-1 needles. Headed to Joanns and found the bobbins but no 15-1 needles.
Will Singer universal needles work and what the heck is 15-1 needles? So confused. Love my new machine. She is cleaned, oiled and ready to go. Want to put in a new needle too but want to make sure I buy the right kind. |
Found this on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Sewing...e+needles+15-1
Says 15-1, but in looking at other needles there searching for "sewing machine needles 15-1", I see a lot of listings that say 15x1, and they're just universal needles. I wonder if you couldn't just use those. I use them in my Featherweights. |
P.S. Meant to add that I love your new machine. It's really cute!

15-1 needles are just the regular old needles you buy at Joannes. Schmetz needles are better than Singer ones and just buy the size you want for your project-either the 12, 14 etc. Any needle you find at stores are typically the 15-1 types. There are special industrial sizes and long arm sizes, but those would be clearly marked as such.

I love my new machine. She is a heavy girl weighing in at 25 lbs. I was fortunate enough to get her and the table for $50.00. She is like brand new. The original owner did not us her much. She was made in 1954. I plan on taking her to bee in my machine trolley. |
So cool! Good for you and such a wonderful find.
