We all must like putting ourselves under pressure! I'm doing the same thing with a queen size quilt, and cushions to match a child's loveseat rocker! Been very busy!!!

Two years I did the same thing only it was 5 quilts. All but one of them were twins so it wasn't two bad.

garysgal 12-07-2011 01:49 PM

I did the same thing last year but mine were rag quilts. I do well under pressure, but that would have been too much for me!

rusty quilter 12-07-2011 04:02 PM

I did 3 lapquilts and 1 queen this year, and although they all turned out great--it took the fun of quilting out--and put the pressure to perform on. Lesson learned!

Wunder-Mar 12-07-2011 04:44 PM

I had a friend make the same "mistake," so I learned from her and I got all three of my grandkids' quilts done in September (they helped pick out the fabric in July).

scrappy2 12-07-2011 05:17 PM

I'm with you and this is the last time I do it, but G-kids are worth it. :)
Next time I will start earlier.

SewSewGal 12-07-2011 05:21 PM

I have 9 tops of Christams skirts done and have to quilt them and bind them yet. I too work better under pressure. My husband always thinks I am insane. but I can't change my mind if i have to get it done NOW.

nannyrick 12-07-2011 05:51 PM

I did the same thing this year, for five Grandaughters. I,m working on the third one, (quilting) and the top for the4th
is done. That will have to be sandwiched and finished. The fifth I don't think is going to make it for the holiday. It has to be shipped out of town. I think I,m going to have some "splaining" to do.
I know she will understand but I feel bad that it won't be done.
I will never put that kind of pressure on myself again.

weatheread 12-08-2011 02:46 AM

I have a quilt on my frame that I started 2 yrs ago I keep adding borders each year it is a full size quilt now so I am quilting it this year before christmas if it hairlips every cow in Texas

2manyhobbies 12-08-2011 04:33 AM

Oh gee, none of us would EVER try that! Ha. I didn't make quilts, but I sure backed myself into a corner this with other projects.

MYWR 12-08-2011 05:39 AM

I started in early October: made 5 sets of 4 placemets each, 3 quilted tabletoppers, 2 quilts, 2 doll quilts, 12 cChirstmas ornaments as gifts, fabric gift bags for all gifts and I have only 1 table topper to quilt (machine) for this weekend - gifts get sent out today - you just need to stay focused - it can be done - oh - I work M-Th 9 hour days as well - it is a question of organization and being ADD

I hope your sewing and quilting goes smoothly and you get them finished without too much stress. I know exactly how you feel. I had 3 quilts on my list this year with thoughts of a possible 4th. ROFLOL!! What was I thinking? I got 1 top finished and 1 more cut out. Realized the other one had to be shipped to CA so I'd better get busy. Ended up doing a princess panel/fleece backed for it- and a pillowcase rather than a pieced top. Turned out ok and it is for a young girl. I don't think I'll get the others finished but will wrap them up with a note that I'll quilt them after the holidays but they live here so it's not a big problem. They are getting pillowcases too but I can finish them in time. The 4th quilt will end up being a birthday present in March. Come to think of it, the other 2 have birthdays in Feb and March. Maybe I should make them all birthday quilts and I'd feel like I'm catching up. They all have other presents anyway. I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Yeah!! I am going to start early for Christmas 2012 - possibly making my start date dec 26, 2011! LOL.

jad1044 12-08-2011 06:03 AM

I've learned the meaning of P - L - A - N - N - I - N - G the hard way too - After Christmas I begin to think of next year's Christmas - and likewise if I've heard of new babys on the way- and weddings coming up and and and - I make a list according to month - in a notebook, so the overall plan is right in front of you, not on a calendar somewhere - that all of a sudden you turn the page to the next month and see that a birthday - wedding or ??? is coming up within days or within the month... and I begin sewing

I've also learned to just keep a supply of baby quilts on hand - not necessarily done - but quilted together - the binding is the easy part if the rest is done, for a quick gift... and if you can afford to work ahead - make quilts to store- there has to be at least one of a stack of quilts that will work for a quick wedding gift - anniversary gift - or whatever. My DMIL has a closet of them - all marked as to pattern and color - and are packed into acid free paper in boxes, and every now and again she goes in and takes them all out - airs them, and refolds them in a different way - so they never break the fibers and are fresh to go as a gift... not everyone can do as she does, but she has practiced this for many of her 92 years!! :) We are not all that fortunate- but I'm working toward having at least one quilt of each size available and then the supply of baby quilts - those babies just seem to pop up at the strangest times! right? :)

Caswews 12-08-2011 07:23 AM

lol or do like I do: plan ahead well at least 5 or 6 months in advance !LOL well yes sometimes it works and well sometimes it doesn't !LOL

beatys9 12-08-2011 07:26 AM

Seems like every year I tell myself not to overdo on the gift making and each year I find myself in December scrambling, no matter how early I started... This year is no exception:) But... the quilts, throws & photos are so appreciated!

#1piecemaker 12-08-2011 07:31 AM

Maybe if I started now, they'd be ready for next year. I'm getting slower as I get older, I think.

Rettie V. Grama 12-08-2011 08:49 AM

Ha, Ha. That's not very many. How about 5, starting November 5. Worked my fingers to the bone.

babyboomerquilter 12-08-2011 08:58 AM

I always have higher expectations of myself than really what I can get finished. I learned a couple of years ago with a similar situation. I feel your pain!

judord 12-08-2011 09:29 AM

Oh, I feel your pain! I decided one year to make pajama's for all eight of my darling grandchiildren. Oh my gosh, I almost killed myself before I was done. And then it turned out that at least one of them could not wear the Minkee to bed as it was too warm. Arghhh!

bearisgray 12-08-2011 10:11 AM

If you are a last-minuter - I am willing to bet that you will do it again! Maybe not three quilts - but something! :-)

tlclifford47 12-08-2011 10:28 AM

I am so proud of myself this Christmas. I am not making any quilts for anyone!!!!!!!!! But, after Christmas I will start quilting again. I have 3 waiting to be cut out. Every time I walk past my sewing room I hear them calling my name " Tracy please cut us out" LOL I just shut the door. Merry Christmas to everyone.

Raggiemom 12-08-2011 10:57 AM

With just moving last month, I knew there was absolutely no way I would get the quilts done for my sisters so I took pictures of the fabric and a copy of the pattern and wrapped that for them! Of course, had I started the quilts in February as was my attention, this wouldn't have been a problem!

Painiacs 12-08-2011 11:04 AM

I'm doing the same this year! I feel sooo rushed! I hate being rushed!!!!!

Bobbielinks 12-08-2011 11:15 AM

I do not do well under pressure. Thank goodness all my quilt customers know to schedule their Christmas quilts well in advance because I try really hard not to take customer quilts in December. That being said, this year I did agree to quilt 6 baby quilts in December (for my very first quilt customer 11 years ago), but they are not for Christmas so that gives me a little leeway.

Just stay focused and I know you will get your quilts completed. Then in January you can start on Christmas 2012.

JanTx 12-08-2011 11:31 AM

I'll be working until the last minute, but a few months ago I made a list of projects I needed done by Christmas and ... have pretty much finished up. I've done 4 quilts - 2 twins and the other large laps. Some have been on the backs of rocking chairs long enough to feel like they should stay there! My mother is getting a table topper with 6 placemats and napkins. Then a friend had the gall to have a daughter getting married - Saturday and another friend had the gall to have a child having a baby in early January. The very idea! :) All I have left to do is bind the twins and finish 3 placemats. I'll get it done!

JanieH 12-08-2011 11:37 AM

I was going to visit a friend in New Mexico and she invited another mutual friend. I decided 8 days before leaving, "Wouldn't it be fun if I made Thanksgiving quilts for us?" Must have been out of my mind because I also had a day of jury duty and 3 doctor appointments scheduled. I did get them done but did them envelope style so no binding and tied them. They did turn out nicely and we had lots of fun with our "cuddle" quilts, and all our cats have settled in on them in our respective homes so it turned out well. But I echo, "Never again!"

Meme2six 12-08-2011 11:43 AM

I have one quilt top made and the fabric for two others for my three daughters. Luckily, we are having our get together on 12/30 so I have extra time to make them!

baglady65 12-08-2011 12:50 PM

Christmas come the same time every year why do we wait??? LOL

Doreen 12-08-2011 12:52 PM

We all seem to work better under pressure! Where do we find the time?

SherryW 12-08-2011 12:58 PM

I had five to make for grandchildren this year. Started in January and finally finished in October. I never know how much sewing time will be available.

butterflies5518 12-08-2011 01:15 PM

Taking all of your comments to heart - this is my first Christmas truly quilting and really only have 1 left to do for SIL but I haven't even cut it out - guess he is getting a bags of fabric. Happy Holidays to all - and good luck on your test!

jlwheart 12-08-2011 02:45 PM

I shelved the paper pieced quilt I wanted to make for my friend for Christmas. This Christmas I'm making fleece throws. I'll start on the pp quilt in Jan. for next year. At least I've got all the supplies for the quilt. She wanted an afghan and I did finish it so she will be pleased. The quilt was what I wanted to make for her.

Me too! I work best under pressure. I have 3 bindings and 4 labels to do, but at least I have until Christmas Eve :)

margecam52 12-08-2011 05:04 PM

I'm working on a customer quilt that's a Christmas gift ...half way done quilting...will finish in the morning, bind and get it in the mail Monday..it's going to a lady about 200 miles away, so will get there in time. I also had 15 quilts for my sis in law...have 4 done, 10 left...will get two or three out before Christmas.

carolynjo 12-08-2011 06:37 PM

Yep. Sounds like me. I never try to meet my deadlines anymore; something always gets in the way.

lfstamper 12-08-2011 06:39 PM

I am envious of all of you as I took this year off!

penski 12-08-2011 08:14 PM

that is what i did this year ,i am still working on the quilt and know i need to get off of here so i can get some quilting done but here i sit in front of the computer!!

Flying_V_Goddess 12-08-2011 09:14 PM

Well, I thought I was getting five quilts done. Then I thought it would be just the one for the boyfriend. Then I got frustrated with the Winding Ways quilt and kept putting it off until it was too late to finish. So no quilts this year.
