We can all learn something new everyday if we want to. I am making potholders for an exchange. I haven't made a lot of quilted potholders. I mostly have crocheted them. Well, I did a test block this morning to see how well they quilted and how the binding would do.
I used one layer of insul-brite and one layer of warm & natural. I like the thickness of it. It quilted out just fine with my walking foot.
Now the binding. I used purchased bias tape. Glad I was making a sample because I don't like the bias tape. It just didn't go on that thickness as nice as I would like. So it is good I have plenty of one of my fabrics to do my own binding.
All is not lost...I will keep the sample for myself. But the exchange potholders I will make my binding.

Did you use the double wide tape? It usually works. But I do make my own most of the time.

No pictures yet. Will take some pics after I do one or two of the exchange ones.

I did use the wide double-fold tape and I have had luck with that around casserole carriers but I think it was the thickness of the potholders that made the bias tape not work as well. Besides I decided making my own binding will be less expensive, too!

Make sure that you cut it on the bias!! It will work really well!!

Can't wait to see them :D:D:D
I have never had good luck with the bias tape either.

Me three on the bias tape issue. I have never found that it is that nice after I did all that work, it seems to ruin it using purchased bias tape. I have bought every size available of the tape makers and even though it is one more thing to do in the process, I like it much better.
