I've not made a dresden plate but sounds like maybe your stitches are too tight?

What is the problem that you are having with the dresend plate quilt pattern? I am working on the same pattern

When you have completed your stitching line, set your seam by pressing it flat (just as it was sewn) before pressing to one side.
I don't know about dresden plate, but am wondering if the seams should be pressed open??? Anyone know? Teach us! Thanks. Suz |
I've started pressing all my seams open. It was hard to switch to one side anyway, I've always sewn clothes, and when I mentioned to my sister (who I adore and look at as almost perfect) how I sometimes have a knot when several intersections meet she said she irons hers open. I haven't found any reason not to and it sure makes it easier to iron and quilt.
kathy ( the rule breaker) LOL |
I just did a dresden plate top (it is on the picture page) What I did was sew all the plate pieces together then pressed the seems open. Then placed the plate centered on block ( I use a kids washable glue stick and just put a small line down 4 or 5 petals to help hold in place) put the center piece on and satin stiched it then satin stiched all aroung the outside petals. Hope this helps

Thanks for the responce I was having a heck of a time to find how to reanswer to you as I'm new to the computor too. When I make the circle in the middle I do the exact size then when I make my pionts as I call them and sew te middle circle to it they don't seem to fit around that middle circle they seem too tight . Would I have to change the circle bigger or smaller???

Make the circle first then place the middle on it. It will cover the bottom of your points that makes sure they are all covered. Nobody is flapping in the breeze as they say.
Some fold under the edges and top stich around it. I'm lazy and hate trying to fold under such a small amount. That was why I satin stiched all around. I used just plain white thread on the one on the picture page but the one I'm working on now I am using varigated thread. |
ok, now I have to ask, how do I access the picture page? Looks like I have been missing out on something very important...
