New Home for Old Machine

Just brought home my dmil's sewing machine, a Bernina 807 Minimatic. I need to clean her up and try her out (so exciting!!!) Googled it and it appears this machine is a dependable workhorse from the 1970's.

I just googled it, and it looks like my 830 from that era, with maybe not quite as many fancy stitches. As a quilter, you would rarely want the special stitches anyway, and if it's anywhere near the quality of the 830 (and I'm sure it is!), it's a treasure. I checked the completed listings on eBay, and it looks as if they've been selling for well over $300 lately - impressive for any machine that's as much as 40 years old. Various feet and other parts are still widely available.

It uses the same foot pedal as the 830, and depending on the year yours was made, it might be among those that were recalled because of a few incidences of them running amok when nobody was sewing! Check to see that the pedal has a sticker with a "T" on it. If it does not, you might want to check with a Bernina shop. It's probably fine, but until you are sure about it, it would be best to unplug it from the wall when you're not right there.

Enjoy - you'll love it!

I have an 807 mini-matic that was given to me. It didn't run so I took it to my Bernina guy. He said it just needed some cleaning and oiling from sitting so long. He got it running great. I use it more often now than my classic 830 because it is a little lighter to move since I can't leave my machines sitting out. I LOVE it.
