Been having some troubles with the Ninja Star quilt (the Double Pinwheel bock wasn't lying flat---finally figured out that one of my triangle templates wasn't square and it was messing things up)...so I've been designing a little to keep myself from going absolutely insane over it. Besides the Wind Waker stained glass wall hangings (which I realized have at least 10-12 different colors on each of them), I came up with a couple Irish Chain variations. Nothing really special, but interesting none-the-less.

Both are very neat. Love the second one especially.

oooh very cool.. I like the rail fence version more too!!!
|
Those both are really nice! I can't wait to see them in a quilt. Are you going to do them yourself or are you going to have someone help you so you can write up the pattern?
|
they're both very clever!!! :P i don't recall ever seeing anything like either one.
i especially like the second one, also. not only is it unusual; not only does it open up so many possibilities in terms of color, value and combinations of both; it's an awesome design for a new quilter. offers up many opportunities for skill building, and would look like a pro's quilt when done. hats off to the Flying Goddess!!! :P :P :P :!: |
Nice work, Goddess. I like the modern art one better (I've always been known as the oddball  ). It reminds me of the op art movement of the early sixties. Try using the bright hopes block in an Irish Chain. I think you'll like the way the weave patterns work out (I did anyway). It's an easy block that looks quite hard and has a lot of visual impact. Isn't it great how designing can be such a stress buster? 8) Keep it up, you're doing great.
|
Wow! I love both of these.
Will you publish these patterns? I want them! Yes, I know, I have more patterns than time. :-o One day that will be reversed. Mary Jane |
You are an amazing designer! I would never call these designs "nothing really special." These are both awesome patterns, you are so creative! :D :D :D Keep designing, I love what you come up with! :D :D :D
|
Oooooh! These are wonderful FVG! Stress evidently makes you VERY creative :D
And I'm glad you figured out your pinwheel problem too. |
oooh...nice. I really like the 2nd one. cool.

Love 'em...first one looks like asian bento box, could call it east meets west lol, and second pattern, very ingenious, and easy for strip quilting.

I took the Rail Road/Irish Chain and filled in the empty spaces with...well, even more Rail Road Blocks, but in a different and lighter color than the woven chain. I like this even better than the first one...lot of texture going on here. :D

that is absolutely amazing!
Just stunning! I love this color/pattern within a pattern. Are you publishing this? Not that I have any money today! Mary Jane :D |
I love it!!! What size blocks are you looking at? How soon until we see the results? You are so artistic!
|
I love this variation!!!! Like you say all the texture going on! With all those ideas dancing in your head how do you find the time to do anything else!!! You are very talented!! Keep up the good work!!!

The first pattern reminds me of an arcade game quilt I saw recently. Not the same, but close. Wish I could remember where I saw it. If I do I will post it. I like the one you designed. :D
|
You out did your self once again! I love the color combinations! Lots of movement! WOW :D :D :D

Thanks guys!
As far as publishing any designs, I'm not sure how. I read a little bit on getting copyrights on them and most of it (probably the really important stuff) went over my head. It was like reading a stereo manual. Barbm---I don't know when I'm actually gonna make this. I still got two quilts to work on/finish plus work on the designs for the quilted sea map and the 8 stained glass wall hangings. DonnaRae---Arcade quilt? Space Invaders maybe? |
Awesome!

Hee Hee, space invaders, I use to play that years ago. No I don't think so. I was looking at some Tettrus Quilts and it was a site that had all kinds of vidio quilts. I will remember sometime. Also I have a link somewhere that I just got that tells you about copywrite and it is kind of in laymans terms, well as best as it could be. So now that is two things for me to find. You are really good at disigning, so you should think about it. You disign them anyway, might as well do something with them! And how fun :D

Like I said, I'd like to publish my designs...just not sure how to go about it. Mainly a matter of the legal issues and whatnot. That and I'm not sure how I would get them made...don't really have a decent computer program that could make pattern bookets or draw up the patterns themselves (I don't even have Microsoft Word, let alone EQ or anything else that might be of use to me). And I'd have to print them from home...and the computer and printer isn't mine so Mom wouldn't be too happy about me making all these patterns and wasting her ink...and we don't have a Kinkos or anything like that around here. |
Well keep all your patterns that you have done so far. You never know what the future holds. And also to let you know Kinkos you can get all printing things done online and they will mail to you. If not online you can even call and mail them. There are lots of ways to do things it is just reseach and wanting to do them. :D

I made my sons split rail fence quilts when they were young. If I can remember how it would go together it would be fun to try the beautiful blue one.

If I were to print and sell patterns and instructions, I'd still need something to draft them up. So far all the patterns for my designs have been drafted on someone else's EQ program. |
Well, now you have some goals and things to work towards, you have to make a work plan now so you can work towards your goals. That will mean doing lots of research into how to achieve your goals, and also, having a job to finaincially aid you in achieving your goals. Sounds like you have a good plan here.

Barbs right. Could you learn to draw them up right? There is a free pdf program. But do you have a computer or do you use your mom's? I would start saving your designs and like Barb said think how to reach your goals. You found something (and I know other things) that you are really good at, and you enjoy it. That makes it even better! Oh by the way. EQ has contest periodically for disigns and other companies do too. I usually list them in leads. Next time I list one or know of one I will let you know. In the meantime do a quilt contest or sweepstake search. Just think if you won money for one of your designs then you could get the stuff you needed. :D You never know, just one way to try, along with lot's of others. :D

Draw up my own patterns by hand? Oh, God, no! It'd take me forever to draw one up and it would be nervewracking worrying if I drew everything accurately (believe me, I tried). I'd rather leave the drawing to a good computer program. I'd like to get EQ, but its totally out of my price range right now (not that I really have a price range anyways.) Thanks for the info on the contests. I'll look into it when I have the chance (this week's gonna be busy). |
