How exciting! A great find. You will have years of fun with this machine. You can order bests online. Amazon sells them as I have purchased them there. Just key in 'treadle sewing machine belt' they cost about $8.00. I found it doesn't pay to keep a second belt on hand if you only have a single treadle because the leather will dry out if they sit to long.. I know you can't wait to get it working and restored so you can sew your heart out and do your first quilt on it.

I purchased a new belt and replaced the old one but the new one slips off. I tightened it but that didn't solve the problem. It is like there should be a lip on the inside of the wheel to hold the belt on but there isn't one.

If no one answers you, post it in vintage sewing machines part of this forum, as this is the area where most people post about quilts and quilting. The sewing machine folks are more likely to see it there. I know absolutely nothing about treadles, so I'm no help.

At the top of the page is a red button that says "new thread". Then start a new thread with your question.

I no longer have room for my Grandma’s treadle. I understand Haiti & other places could use them so I would donate if I knew how. Grandma would like that.

If you have a church with a missionary group you might want to contact them to donate your machine. My niece had friends that took a bunch of machines down after their hurricanes a few years ago and they were also asking for fabric donations.

I’ve asked but they had no answer. I did talk to a man involved with donating wheelchairs. He thought it could be looked into is all, so that’s not real promising, is it ? I would deliver it for collection (if possible) or donate money needed to get it where it should go. All I can find by searching the ‘net is treadles are welcomed since electricity is sporadic or non existent.

Bonnie Hunter has many treadle machines. She uses a clear tubing with fasteners that insert into the tubing. She says it doesn't stretch like the leather belt and you don't have to worry about the staples. She just had a blog post on this in the last days. Good luck!
