To go back to the original question ;) - yes I took an old quilt and copied it. I saw a quilt hanging in a quilt store in PA - this is its picture:
Those diamonds are much smaller than what I had to use. Here's the quilt I made for my mom several years ago. The diamonds were cut by my g'ma (mom's mom who died in 1945). That's my Mom looking at the quilt w/ my brother holding it. |
I love my traditional quilts - but the technique was interesting.

I don't really care for it either.

I must say.....I have been a fan of F/ P since who know when......I have subscribed to their mag since it was first published....have the first one......and have made many things following the mags directions. Until about two yrs ago....found things were getting redundant, some of the guest quilts/patterns were not to my liking, stopped subscription, but would occasionally pick one up at Walmart if something struck my eye. This last issue however, I picked up, flipped thru, and put back on the shelf ....nothing for me in it....... Yes, they have indeed introduced the world to the art of quilting, making it something a lot more people would try, did, and were hooked! So they do have my utmost respect, gratitude and encouragement in the changing worked of quilting. I was just commenting on one of the recent episodes I saw and gave my personal opinion about it and the hosts.......did not mean to be a police of any kind, just wanted to stimulate some conversation.....

I have some stars just like yours, that I have made using diamonds cut out by my Great-Grandmother in the 40's. I don't have them made into a top yet but I am working on it. I love the way you handled your first border, it is very clever.

I had a star quilt like that as a child, only mine had just two colors, mint green and yellow, plus a green and cream print.

Oooh from the description, I thought you were talking about a jack's chain quilt. I love that pattern!
I have a Reliable iron, it's the best one I've ever owned. It's a Reliable Digital Velocity, very heavy, tons of steam. |
