I'm on my third hexie quilt because I seem to enjoy the torture of them. The first two were hand pieced, the latest is machine pieced. Once I fall in love with a pattern, I usually stick with it until I'm completely sick with it and then I move onto something else.

If it's something new, audition the block and see if you will like the process of putting it together. Personally, I like the challenge of seeing if I can come up with a better, faster way to assemble the block, that way I don't get bored with it, which tends to happen to me a lot.

Just a quick list of current projects. Big or little project, I'll jump right in and "just keep swimming". Each project serves my attention span. I make mistakes if I work on tedious, repeated stitching for long stretches, so I move around.
Usually, I make the first block so that I learn the pitfalls for future blocks.Then I only correct the one mistake and and apply it to the rest of the blocks.

I may make a single block, just to check my seam size, critical places for points and if my color choices really look good as placed in the block. Then off I go to make the larger quilt. Unless you have a place or individual to share the throw, I would skip it and plunge in to making the large quilt.

I seldom make the same pattern twice also...so guess you could say I jump right in and make whatever size I have the fabric for.
