Im thinking of buying one. Does anyone have one and how do they like it.

I do have a grand quilter, but only the mid arm "Hobby 1200" which model are you looking at. I have only had my machine a short time and have it on a frame and love it so far. I have alot to learn but the machine is doing just fine.

So far we have quilted 3 quilts with our 1200 and Imperial frame. We had some start-up issues with tension, thread breakage, and such, but now that we finally have found the "sweet spot" we are very happy with the results. If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I have had a steep learning curve so far.

Its just buying a machine in this price range is alot of money for me. I just wanted to know if you thought it was worth it. Im not going to get the frame right away. Is it easy to quilt with or does a regular machine do just as good, I quess thats my question.

I have the Hobby 1200 also. I've been looking at the possibility of moving up to a larger machine. I've heard very good things about the ABM Innova machines and am leaning in that direction. They have 3 models from 18" on up to 26". You can get the 18" model with frame for around $9K, which I believe is comparable in price to the Pfaff. And I thnk the Innova frame is sturdier.

The PFAFF 1200 is 1400.00 Thats more my price range , but Thank you.

The throat space on the 1200 is quite a bit bigger than our regular sewing machines, and the 1200 is capable of sewing 1600 stitches per minute I believe (and the speed is adjustable). These are good qualities, but I know a lot of people on this board have quilted bed-sized quilts on their sewing machines with excellent results. The reason we wanted the GrandQuilter was that we wanted the whole package - frame, stitch regulator, and machine. Maybe someone who knows how can tell you how they managed to quilt big quilts on their machines, then you can decide if it's worth spending $1,400 on a sewing machine (on steroids) just for quilting.
