New products I found at the quilt show.
I love shopping at quilt shows. So many items not found at the local shops and no shipping. LOL.
My best find was the Big Look at the show price. This item is fantastic for anyone that needs to see what they are sewing. I love love love it. The other new finds: Flatter ironing spray. I loved the fig scent. the Pounce stencils, with fine mesh in the stencil holes not just open space and the Pounce chalk marking stick. Won't crumble or break when sharpening or marking. the new Add a Quarter ruler with the tapered edge, no more need for the credit card or post card to fold. Braid thread. You pull a thread and it rouches. Will rouche it and add as a piping to my binding. |
Yes, quilt shows were fun to see what is new but as one gets older, they get too difficult to venture thru.
|
Wow, some of these I've never heard of. Guess I'll have to look them up. My favorite that I got at the quilt show is the Bloc-Loc. It is use it for HSTs and it works like a charm for squaring up. I use it all the time.

I'm really interested in the Big Look, but can't find it by googling.
|
Please explain what the "Big Look" is & where to find it.

The glass does not get in the way. I forget it's there and I've sewn with it most of the day. It magnifys the light too. I can see each stitch when I'm machine appliqueing. It's steady as the machine sits on the base of it. I'll rouche the braid thread and then sew it with a straight seam down the middle to use as a piping or spiral it to make flowers or accent applique pieces. It's very soft and flexible. Examples at the booth had it sewn straight (not gathered) into designs like flowers, birds, etc.

Congrats on your new finds and enjoy using them. What fun to go to a quilt show and find goodies to bring home.

Interesting items. I love quilt shows. Have fun.
|
That is one reason I stay away from quilt shows now, too many gadgets followed me home. The majority of them have proven to be worth every penny, but then there have been the clunkers too. I purchased a Wahl seam ripper at a quilt show and it is fantastic. It looks like a miniature hair clipper and just goes through the threads like they were butter. Also found an amazing cutting mat that I've had for over ten years and it looks like new. Like another member mentioned, I have some rulers that I just had to have and haven't used since the quilt show. Ah, we live and hopefully we learn.
|
Last "quilt/sewing" show I went to I found a little green doo-hicky that sits down into the hold of a spool of thread with a magnet on top so I don't put needles into the arm of my chair, LOL after almost 6 month, I think I'm getting into the habit of actually using it. I think it was about $2.50. That's all I spent at the whole show beyond admission and parking (now those are getting ridiculous!). Too many one use items.
|
I don't know why anyone would care if thread is organic when the fabric it will be used on is probably 99% not organic. LOL
|
Isn't it amazing how many gadgets we need when our ancestors made quilts and were lucky to have a pair of scissors.
|
If our ancestors had the choices we had today they would have a filled sewing room too. I know my great grandmother and great aunts would have every new gadget they could get her hands on for quilting. I imagine our great great grand children thinking about us having no laser instant sewing or 3D printing of quilts we design.

Went to national quilting association in Little Rock this weekend, great show but was hurting by the time I got to vendors. Did buy some stencils for labels on quilts and others for hand quilting designs.
My dau took me...next show will reserve a wheelchair. |

My dau took me...next show will reserve a wheelchair. That was the show I was at too! I talked with the Best of Show Winner and learned so much about how she made her quilt. Fascinating. She in turn learned a lot from Sharon Schamber. I learn more from the winners then I can from any class. My Fitbit recorded over 15,000 steps at the show! |
Thank you for sharing your best new items at the quilt show. I really need to check out that Big Look my eyes keep changing so that my reading glasses go up and down on my head. That looked to be the best of all worlds right there easy to see. The new add a quarter ruler looked interesting but would like to see how it works. So I really appreciated you sharing all of this great information.

Does anyone have any idea how much the Big Look costs. I couldn't find a site for ordering and it would really come in handy for me.
Thanks to Onbyone for posting the links because they didn't come up in my search. |
How fortunate that you can still attend so many quilt shows. I used to love wandering around quilt shows seeing the beautiful quilts, sewing machines, long arm quilters, fabric, fabrics and more fabrics. However, it has become too difficult for me to walk great distances, so I really miss attending them.
|
I saw one site selling it at $90.
|
I love quilt shows too, I go mainly for the quilts but the vendors get my attention too. It's a nice chance to try out or ask about things I've seen in catalogs but didn't quite understand or see the point of. Sometimes I STILL don't see the point after the explanation, LOL.
I was disappointed last year at the PIQF, I wanted to buy some larger BlocLoc brand HST rulers but they sold out before I got there! |
The show special for the Big Look was $60. If you have a very long machine the long extension rod was $15. I have it on my Brother 1500 right now and the regular size fits fine. It sells for $90 online. At first I thought it was another machine light. I was hooked as soon as I sit down and looked though it and sewed. I took three of my friends right over to the booth and they each bought one.

Would like to see a picture of how this Braid Thread looks when attached after it is pulled up. quiltingbuddy #3: The block lock ruler is one I have been looking for for a few years. Should have bought it when I first saw it. BettyGee #15 The Wahl seam ripper sounds great. I want one. AZJane #16: Would love to see a picture of the "little green doo-hicky" that hangs onto your needles. On a spool of thread? ? ? ? |

We are fortunate to have a rep in out guild! She is teaching a class tomorrow with the drunkards path template. I have several of their rulers and they are awesome! |

Would love to see a picture of the Add-a-Quarter ruler and explanation of why it is better. In traditional paper piecing, the paper is folded over on the fold line using a firm piece of paper or plastic. Then the add a quarter ruler is used to cut the fabric to get a perfect 1/4" allowance. The taper edge is on the opposite side of the ridge on the ruler so no extra item needed to fold the paper and it will help prevent accidents of cutting the seam allowance off. If you paper piece a lot then you will know the improvement makes the ruler so much better. I'll take a picture and post it later. |
Wow! You found some good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
|
I love going to those shows as well. However, after many years of buying all the cute stuff I had to have, I figured out I never used most of it, so don't go anymore.lol I did enjoy it though. I should go again and just look.hehehe
