I got the new quilt magazine by Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson. I'm not real thrilled with it. 80% art quilts, which I really have no interest in....good reading otherwise tho. Let me know what you think, there are alot of fans of art quilts out there I know

Patchwork Pam 02-17-2010 05:58 AM

Art quilts are beautiful, but I prefer to make bed quilts to give to my family and friends.

I'm not interested in art quilts. They are pretty but I would rather see pieced quilts that I might enjoy makeing if I buy a magizine.

This will be an interesting thread...I didn't subscribe, but I like mags with lots of patterns and how to technique articles.

fabuchicki 02-17-2010 07:13 AM

I'll have to see if I can find it because I make art quilts.

Me too! :D

I browsed through the magazine but it didn't interest me. I heard that Eleanor Burns is thinking of doing a Quilt in a Day Magazine. Now that is one I know I'd be interested in.

oh yes, I like Eleanor too. I'm to help teach a young girl this summer how to quilt and i told her Mom to have her watch Quilt in A Day show, it's just back on our PBS station.

When does a quilt stop being a quilt and turn into fabrie art? Went to a hugh quilt show and was delighted to see the art quilts - was very dissapointed that there were nor award ribbons on useable quilts. It seemed the more machine quilting the happier the judges were. Just a observation.

What would we do without Eleanor.

art quilts are nice and sometime down the road I might make a couple, but I perfere to make bed quilts when I learn to quilt

cindygale 02-17-2010 06:05 PM

i would also like a mag by eleanor burns. i like throw quilts/bed quilts/baby quilts. i think art quilts are wonderful but just not my taste..

reginalovesfabric 02-18-2010 07:58 AM

I agree ladies, I don't care for art quilts, I like huggable, lovable, scrappy or pieced quilts.

cuppi duke 02-18-2010 08:04 AM

I too like to look at art quilts but would rather make something useful. I'm not much for wall hangings, they gather too much dust and I already have enough of that

Candace 02-18-2010 08:52 AM

Are there patterns that follow the showcased art quilts?

Oklahoma Suzie 02-18-2010 08:58 AM

I don't do the art thing. I like reg old quilts.

Me too. Eleanor Burns is my favorite. I'd get a lifetime subscription to that. How do we give her encouragement to do it.

Eleanor mentioned this when I was at QIAD a couple of weeks ago - there was some talk of it, but she said she has no plans of doing one. Her new book is pretty cool, tho

I looked at "Quilt Life", and decided against it - just not my style of quilt magazine. I'll stick to picking up the ones that strike my fancy instead of subscribing I suppose.
