Your colors are gorgeous. Please post when you are done. I am sure it will be spectacular.

I'm thinking I'd put a block in the center and radiate out in gradient 'colors' - IF you have enough blocks to do that. (much like your colors in your skinnies are grouped) Can you do a couple of layouts and post pics?
I have nothing for you on the skinnies! I toss mine without hesitation :) |
I definitely like the rainbow look of #1.

I saw someone at our guild meeting had knitted her batik scraps into a scarf with eyelash yarn. It was very nice!

The last one seems to be my favorite. As far as throwing away little scraps, I don't. They go to a local lady who makes dog beds for the humane society. At least they are not going to the landfill or wasted at $11-12 per yard. Someone probably does it in your area. Right now, I am trying to gather scraps for a young woman who has back issues and cannot work and can hardly walk. I have fixed up a machine for her from some I bought at a yard sale for $8.00 and refurbished it. If you don't keep the ones usable, you could donate to a thrift store and at least they would not go to the trash. Just a suggestion.

I, too, like the third layout best. The first one would be my second choice. Whatever you decide, it will be a beautiful quilt. I really love the brightness of your blocks.

ok ladies....there's been too much stress in my life lately and the last thing I needed to stress over was how to lay out this quilt. So here it is....random.....only because I must be bsessive compulsive because it took me f-o-r-e-v-e-r to decide what to do. Everything tells me to lay it out in a gradient style, but that's only because I want everything I do to be perfect and I know it won't be so as they say 'don't sweat' the small stuff. Thinking about quilting it with variagated thread. If it's a pain to work with I will go with a solid color....what do you think?

I love batiks and your colors.

It's beautiful. Your random arrangement is playful. I know what you mean about stressing about placing pieces. I'm so OCD when it comes to organizing a random layout. I could probably play with those pieces for days. BTW: I'm NOT obcessive about anything else in my home:o.

Don't have any suggestions for you, but just had to say that you have the beginnings of a beautiful quilt, and I can't wait to see what you finally decide to make. Whatever you decide is going to be wonderful.

While I was typing my reply, you were posting your layout. Just as I thought, it is beautiful.

Beautiful fabrics! I like the random pattern best, but all layouts you've shown would be great!
|
I like #1 and #3 best. If you add more colors try for a red (like cherry red fade to a pinkish vs. orange), maybe a chocolate brown fade to tan, black fade to gray? I used several such colors in my crazy diamond quilt and love them together. This quilt is fabulous!

I used the scraps like this to put on the top of a present when it is in a gift bag with tissue. Your quilt is going to be awesome.

ah sorry!
you went with random. it's going to be a gorgeous quilt :) aileen |

My favorite quilting thread always leans toward varigated. But, a thought crossed my mind that in this case, a solid might draw the blocks together. Maybe give them a cohesive feel. Wanting a sense of order in randomness. Varigated would tend to blend more. Perhaps choose a green, yellow, or the peach color for thread. You did great on the layout expect nothing less from yourself as you choose the thread. Your choice will be the right one. Love to see the finished piece. |
