New Quilt as you Go in which you quilt directly on to batting.
A west coast blogger has a tutorial on this. Its very interesting. Her example shows a small 36 inch size quilt. Has any of you tried this, if so what type of batting did you use. The blogger used Pellon but I usually go w/ Hobbs.

You can probably use whatever you like, depending on the loft you want, and how dense the quilting. If QingAYG with a domestic machine and no backing, I have found some battings may 'grab' the bed of the machine, and for these I like to use a light iron-on interfacing, to help movement.

I don't know which one you are talking about but there are many that you can sew right on the batting. Do you have a link?
|
Can you post the link to this blogger?? You would certainly have to use use something that wouldn't get caught up in the feed dogs.

I could see this working very nicely if you were going to use only fleece as dual purpose backing/batting. Then all you would need to do would be add sashing on front & back for joining the squares.
Have had this in mind to try ever since I first heard about quilt as you go. |
I'm puzzled.....why would anyone want to quilt without backing?
|
I think so you can add backing as one large piece (as in normal quilting) after the blocks are joined.

Any chance of a link to where you saw it. I just can't imagine what is happening but would love to learn

I have some of this, same thing really.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/43497626?w...101336&veh=sem I have drawn different block patterns on batting and then QAYG . Great for kids to do too. Here is a video how the pre printed batting works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG-N-mfDqnA |
I used that method a few years ago. Laid out the backing and batting using spray adhesive. I just sewed strips sort of like the string method. When whole top is covered, square it up and bind it. Sorry no pics.
