I started sewing when I was about 12. I have made suits in Home Ec class (quite a few yrs ago - many many yrs), I went to college, got married, except for repairs have not sewn until about 1 yr ago when I took up quilting.

I have made 5 quilts -quilted w/SID - 2 from the same pattern I learned in the quilting class at Joann Fabric- have 3 UFO's and in the process of making the Red Herring quilt - PP - which could become my 4th UFO.

I love looking through quilting patterns on line, love reading quilting books, have a stash of fabric that could make probably 50 quilts (or more).

So my question is In order not to keep adding to my UFO stash, what type of quilt pattern should I be using to make my quilts.... is this pattern to difficult

Do you know, the quilt I am most enjoying working on is a sampler. I used the BOM on here and did the Pioneer blocks. I'm finding that I'm not getting as frustrated or bored, for a couple of reasons. Reason 1: I'm only making one of each block! I don't need to stress about if they are all identical, are seams going to match, ect. Reason 2: I get to pick out blocks that I like, not that are too hard for me. Reason 3: Any blocks go on a sampler! You can pick a theme, like star blocks, PP, animals, and go with it or you can mix it up! As long as you have some tie in together (colors, ect), it should work! You can find a ton of blocks on quilters cache and they are organized by size (I like 12in, get more quilt with less blocks!) and rated by how easy or hard they are to make. Good luck and don't give up!

I guess it depends on what is making you set them aside. Or are they difficult patterns? Are do you get sick of it, in the middle of the project? Or something else?

That first link, likes it would be a very simple quilt to make. If the ones you are doing are too hard.

If it is because you lose interest. Maybe you can do smaller projects.

I would love to see pics of what you have done so far.

Since you are relatively new to quilting, I would go with the 1st one.

Half square triangles and on point can be tricky.

I like all of them and you should have no problem with any of them. Sounds like you have enough fabric. Make several of them.

I'm kinda like you, sewed all my life but have only been quilting a couple of years and it is a whole different ball game. I love the process of buying the fabric and picking the pattern but I get bored after the first block or two. I find that if I pick patterns with larger pieces or more challenging ones I like it better. I also love the quilting process and have done a couple of whole cloth quilts and you might try that.
as far as the patterns, if you like it then plunge right in. If you limit yourself to easy patterns alwyas you will get bored with quilting.

I think you may really like the Disappearing Nine Patch pattern. It will hold your interest start to finish.

It's very easy but looks very complicated, makes non quilters say You made that!

I would find a guild or a class in your area and join...it has really helped me move into the next level. Keep on quiltin'!

I like the first 2 patterns best. They seem pretty straightforward. When I first started quilting, I went to quilterscache.com and picked out some blocks that I liked that were listed as easy blocks. I avoided paper piecing and applique. I made 2 of each block that I picked, but switched up the fabric for the 2nd block. I love that quilt. It taught me much. Enjoy and sew just a little bit each day.

I agree that the first one looks like the easiest, and it is really pretty. And thanks for the links, I've added most of these to my "some day" list! Disappearing Nine Patch is good, very easy, and fun to do. Another easy one is Wickedly Easy and Wicked Easy, they're both easy and pretty.
